Seems alot of people have started side mods. But of course, I have also done so. Pretty much the only thing Ive been doing with the modtools (where do you think all my assets are comeing from).
This is a big side mod for the original maps. And by big, i mean everything has been changed (every single freaking stat in every ODF from wookies to V-wings). One of the only reasons I still play BF2 is because of this.
All in all, this is sorta like a BF2.5, but i think that name is allready taken somewhere so im calling it simply,
The Battlefront Project.
--INCLUDES--
>New skins- all the clone legions (41 501 327 212 Galactic marines and Shock troopers) for each map.
>All tanks and star fighters have been acuratley modified too. Including the rebel LAAT, it spawns as the K-wing now. Realistic TIE, X-wing everything.
>Ive also modified the campaign scripts very slitley, changeing reinforcements, timers, objective kills that sorta thing.
>I changed naboo and and kamino to use phase-I clones (Kamino also has ARC-Troopers with ARC rifles)
>Starfighters also have cotpit view now
>New effects
>Ive pretty much moddified every skin in some way.
>Almost every weapon ODF ive put together. All weapons have a more realistic "feal" too.
>A whole freaking lot of Star Wars packed gun-blazeing action
Game-Play
I made all weapons more powerful. Theres 2 carbine variations, semi and auto and they share ammo. Semi-auto is more powerful and accurate but uses more ammo, automatic is weaker but... its automatic. Rifle also has burst and auto mode.
Ive added things that pandemic left out
More units.
Tons more weapons.
The weapons really feel realistic, and along with a closer chase-view of the units its a whole new experience. Theres also tons of other stuff (But i dont want to writing a book here).
Rebels and droids have less health (Lack armor), but are a bit more maneuverable compared to clones.
AI are made to be much harder on you and less of the pansies they where in the shipped sides.
Things are much go much faster then the original game-play.

The below is the new side layout. In this mod theres a class for every job, and its important to know when to use what class.
Just so you know what unit you picking, at the spawn screen it goes in this order (from top to bottom):
Soldier
Assault
Sniper
Heavy Trooper(8 pts)
Mobility (16pts)
Recon (16pts)
Support (16pts)
Hero
==Standard Units== (Available at start)
Soldier: Basic grunt of each faction. They are good for any use but more particulary anti-infantry. Cant go wrong with this class.
Blaster Carbine/auto, Blaster Carbine/semiauto, blaster pistol, Thermal dets X1 , bacta injector, extra ammo
Sniper: Snipers are made for long range attacks. They are good for attacking/defending cps before the enemy gets to close.
Sniper rifle, blaster pistol, Thermal dets X1, Recon droid X2
Heavy Trooper: these guys are meant for Anti-armor use. They carry all kinds all explosive equippement for taking out vehicles or concintrations of enemies. They cant enter vehicles any more either.
Rocket launcher, blaster pistol, concussive grenades X3, detpacks X1
Engineer: The best unit to have at a newly taken base. Fusion cutters to heal any turrets/droids for your team, and mines to place in case any enemies wonder in.
Multishot Blaster/Mortar launcher/EMP launcher, Blaster pistol, fusion cutter, Mines X4, Defense Barrier
==Special Units==
Assault Trooper: A beefed up version of the soldiers, they carry better weapons and a little more health.
Blaster rifle (full auto), Blaster rifle (Burst), Heavy blaster pistol(ammo), Thermal dets/EMP grenades/Wrist rocket X3 (depends on faction) X4
Mobility: Mobility, specialty class meant for geting into the middle of the action and taking out a bunch of enemies, then (hopefully) geting back to safety (Rambo style). Surpise is invaluable when useing these guys.
Jet Trooper-
Multishot blaster, Blaster Pistol, Thermal Detonator X1, Jet pack
Air droid-
Concussion Rifle, Commando pistol, Sonic Grenades X3, Jump pack
Non-sheilded Droideka-
Light laser cannons, Heavy laser cannons(ammo)
Elite Geonosian-
Beam Canon, Sonic Grenades
Dark Trooper-
Assault Cannon, wrist blaster, wrist rockets X4, Jump pack
Rebel Mercinary-
SRR, Blaster pistol, Cluster frag grenades (thrown in groups of 3) X3, Jet pack
Support: Pretty self explanitory, they provide support for their faction. Pretty much every thing that gets in front of these guys will be destroyed. Perfect for blasting through enemies.
Clone Support Trooper-
T-21 Laser Cannon, blaster pistol, Rally, Dispensable E-webs X1
Droideka-
Clone Gunner-
Z6 Rotary Blaster Cannon, blaster pistol, Rally, Auto Turret X1
Droideka-
Laser Cannons, Personal Sheild
Imperial Enforcer-
Laser Cannon, blaster pistol, Rage, Dispensable E-webs X1
Wookie Warrior-
Bow Caster, Anti-Infantry grenade launcher (this weapon is fun), Auto turret X1
Reconassaince: Also self explanitory. Their style is based on sort-range surprise just like the mobility class, excepct they acheive it a diferently. Recons have very little health (but it regeneragtes), cloaking ability and carry sabatuage equippement.
Shadow Trooper/Recon ARC Trooper-
DC-19 Stealth Carbine, Repeater pistol, EMP detonators, Cloaking device
Shadow Droid-
Incinerator, Repeater pistol, Seismic charge, Cloaking device
Black Storm/ Storm Commando (indoor/ outdoor maps)-
E-11 Stealth Carbine, Repeater pistol, Time bombs/Orbital strike, Cloaking device

Only land turret change is that they are all rapid fire. And the Dish turret fires blue(ion)
But in space, i was able to modifly the remote turrets(only). The beam one is MUCH more powerfull.
The particale one is faster and shoots 2 shots at a time,
but over heats. And finally the chaingun is now a rapid fire laser. All turrets have considerable range now as well,
they are alot more usefull.

It sounds like Battlefront II the way that it should have been made -- great work! I'll definitely give this a try once it's out.

Yeah, it sounds really cool. But it kinda stinks that all these side mods are coming out now, mines coming in a few days, Wednseday latest, and there were two other side mods released by other people, one last week, and the other a few weeks before that. But I will definitely try this one out.

Looks GREAT! One question, though--is it at all possible to localize side mods? I hope? Cuz that's the only detractor that I see from this mod so far. Or do you plan to localize them later?
I've always liked your work, Syth. Can't wait to see how this turns out!

Is the REP side now without a bombardment unit? The ARC fighter could pass as a light bomber, but it's more of a multipurpose unit anyway. Not that I think you shouldn't have made the V-wing what it really is, just wondering.

I was waiting for somebody to do something like this. Great job Syth! It looks excellent!
Two little things; this mod would be even better (in my own opinion, of course) if the lasers were a bit cooler looking (check the ML Kashyyyk assets, those lasers are real nice), and you used the DC-15A by Pahricida. Just my two suggestions, but the fact is that this looks awesome already.

It looks AWESOME! But is anything here overpowered? My brother wont let me download things like that (He says these kind of stuff is overpower, how bout charging in enemy lines with a pistol that shoots out pink lasers?)

Nothing is too over powered. The droideka which was originaly one of the more n00bed units is much more even, mostly because grenades are much more powerfull and its 2 lasers arnt like chainguns (they are just like in the movie). Every thing is pretty evenly matched, except some of the levels are still one-sided, like death star, polis massa, and dagobah.
About a month ago i started geting a really weird error. When playing GCW in some of the in door levels (deathstar, coruscant, polis massa, ect) the game would crash and then give me a "BF2 has encountered a problem" message. It has nothing to do with the sides though, and the levels dont crash when im doing "Rise of the Empire". Hopefully its something i can fix before the release.

Exactly what is the V-Wing then? Isn't it a bombardment fighter, or is it something different in the movies and books?
Out of curiousity, Syth, how long have you been working on this mod, the whole thing, and how long have you been working on the republic alone? I just want to make a comparison as to your and mine. I've been working on teh whole thing, rep, gam, gar, gun, jed, cis, and all since january, but haven't started the wok, snw, or imp yet, so I was wondering how long it's taken you to do this.

I started this after i finished my first map (on and off), which was november or december of last year, but i used the sides that I already had from the map. I am constantley changeing it, adding stuff and what not.
It will be done when I have done as much as can with it.
