New Games for Gametoast

There was a topic some time ago about Gametoast having a setback because...well BF2 is falling in popularity and people are getting tired of the game. :? I wanted to bring up the point that we could revitalize Gametoast if we dealed with games other than those involving Star Wars. Those only come out so often. I know there is a new game coming out called Lethal Alliance or something like that but it is only a matter of time before that game would fall out of favor too. What I'm suggesting is that we start experimetning with modding with other games to make ourselves more...diverse in the games we do so that we can always be in action (or whatever that word is that I'm looking for) :P

We should mod games that have been underrated by PC gamers (since the games are mostly PC). I could see games besides Halo and Half Life 2 being modded for fun.

As Gametoast, I think Guru wants to prove that other games that have come out "unsuccessful" due to the company or some issue can be made up thanks to Mod Tools.

Lethal Alliance won't have the capability to mod, unless you did the PSP version and did some hex editing.... maybe.

I'm all for new games but there just aren't any other good SW games to mod! :(

Maybe a JA section should be opened up at GT, but I'm still having tons of fun modding SW:BF2 ;)

There are more games to mod than Star Wars. Let's face it, Star Wars games are dying...

I will always say Freelancer would be the perfect game. There are about a million mods for it, but most of 'em are small, crappy mods. GT could easily mod the eff outta that game and...gah, so many possibilities. lol I'm such a nerd. :P

guys before we get all modd-happy, shouldn't we remeber why Guru made this website. To modd star wars batttle front2. Should we really just give up his idea, and move on to other games?

Even if starwars battle front 2 is dieing, we can still have fun with it. The battle front converion pack 2.0 won't come out ti'll next year, do you guys really think it will be dead by then. And if so, should we tell teancum not to waste his time. If we all agree (witch I'am not) that BF2 is dead and dieing, then waht is the point of this website to continue?

And Trianmaster, look what happend to filefront.. the opend up all games and gamers to modding, They are now divided into over 50 + websites! Is that waht we want to happen to gametoast? All of us picking our favorite games, and going our own ways?

Noooo! Vive le Fra— er, Star Wars!
Heh. The only other games I have is Lego Star Wars... Hm... I wonder if it's possible to mod it!
(I know you couldn't make maps, but mods...)

Heh. That'd be fun.

Posted this in game informer, at leasst read the important bits. Star Wars games and Battlefront and KOTOR in particullar are not finished.
Colin Campbell of Business Week wrote:I ask Nancy MacIntyre, VP of global sales and marketing, about the future of the franchise, I’m not expecting her to say, “Colin, we want to share some really amazing secrets with you.” And it turns out I’m right. But she does talk about how the company is approaching this IP for the future.

“We feel like it’s really important to make each Star Wars game an event, she explains. “Our fans want a logical progression of the Star Wars story line, so we are committed to only two Star Wars experiences a year.”

She adds, “There will be one mega one like Star Wars ’07 and another that might be somewhat more specific, for more of a specific Star Wars audience. So in 2007 our primary goal will be Star Wars ’07 and you will see us do add-ons to our Star Wars Galaxies (MMO) and you will likely see us do some sort of Star Wars handheld game.”

Star Wars ’07 is the game that has been shown in tech demo form at a few conferences and via online clips. It looks great, as one would expect. Star Wars games, nowadays, are almost always good games.

But what of the future, beyond next year? “In 2008 and 2009 we start to run into the Star Wars animated series and potentially the Star Wars live action TV series,” she says. “There’s been a lot of speculation about what we actually have in development and that’s very closely guarded. I would say that if there’s Star Wars television programming out there that we’ll have games.”

KOTOR and Battle Front

MacIntyre continues, “We’ve also got Star Wars franchises like Knights of the Old Republic and Battle Front that we will not leave behind. It’s very important to us that we grow those franchises.” So the future of Star Wars includes new and old game-based IP as well as IP based on other spin-offs.

Star Wars 07 will be a new brand, but MacIntyre says there will be no ‘core’ Star Wars branded games. This game will sit alongside KOTOR and Battle Front.

What is interesting is how this massive, huge game will be handled from a marketing perspective over the next year. Lucas is wisely using the public’s interest as an asset to be leveraged, rather than as an inconvenience to be avoided, until the time is ripe. What this means is a steady flow of information; just the sort of thing journalists enjoy as much as fan-boys.

“We typically work on these games about eighteen months out. We really treat these games like they are a theatrical release from the perspective of mapping everything out. We know that we need to be out there talking early and often and so you will see us handling the basic things like websites, but we’ll also do web-docs and developer diaries and behind the scenes and all the kinds of information that these core fans really want to know.”

Of course, given the appetite of this audience, resources must be put in place. She explains, “It takes a ton of work. We have the benefit of StarWars.com here which is basically a daily magazine with a tremendous amount of content. We are used to developing content and releasing it on a regular basis.”

But not everyone is a Star Wars nut. She adds, “Then there’s everybody else out there who may need to be sold on why the Star Wars game is phenomenal. We need to be more judicious about how we talk to them and where we reach them. So there will be a very big consumer push leading all the way up to the crescendo of the launch. Very soon we’ll do a big announcement on the game and go from there.”
Hopefully that's enough to get your Star Wars juices flowing for now. To me this also sounds very much like a confirmation for KOTOR 3 and SWBF3 as well as another (currently titled Star Wars '07) completely new game (or 2) for 2007. If it is the game from where the clip is taken then I'm sure at least some of us are thinking about the possibilities of how this could be modded etc...

We will still continue to primarily mod Star Wars games, but we are currently discussing other options too inorder to keep GT on top. Don't worry, this will remain a modding community no matter what. Guru's vision for the site will remain, just might branch off. I can't go into too much details though cause us admins are still discussing things and we don't have any definates yet. But I can guarrantee GT will be around for a long while. (You can always mod anything to be Star Wars related. :P)

but in related news, someone is designing a SWG server emulator called (obviously) SWGEMU. We as a site will probably not get into hosting this cause of legality issues (haven't read the whole EULA for Star Wars Galaxies, but there was something about emus being a no-no, so to what extemt they mean, I'm truely not sure until I read it), but it might start a SWG Modding Revolution (that, we could definately probably do :D). :P

i say JA, I've been mapping for JA for a longggg time, only released one map though out of many private RPing ones :P

I would suggest a RP section becouse of all the rpers on gametoast but I think it would just cause to much of a badnwidth and memory drain for the site

I think we should start to modify the great game Star Wars Knights of the old Republic...

I also reccomend Jedi Academy and Republic Commando...If only I could find my second disk for RC
Anyways modding JA with making skins is actually easier than in SWBF2 IMO.
CarbineImpulse-that article looks very promising, especially the part about expanding on the battlefront franchise.

We had a Republic Commando section but there just wasn't enough interest. But maybe there would be now.

If we move on to JA and KotOR, it might be smart to do some 'sponsored' forums. Like an unofficial MovieBattles forum. That would attract more players andn modders.

Off-topic: For Republic Commando, is it entirely possible to hex mod units?

Id like to see BF2142 more involved here, it is more or less the same kind of game, what it is for sure is that I want to see a shooter. I think that except for FS that game isnt seriously modded yet......
EDIT BTW I think we shouldnt mod RC because is more dead than SWBF2 I supose

Off-topic: Peraza0 you are somewhat in that RC is dead because frankly enough LucasArts seems to have given up completely on its product if you had read this quote:
MacIntyre continues, “We’ve also got Star Wars franchises like Knights of the Old Republic and Battle Front that we will not leave behind. It’s very important to us that we grow those franchises.”
It is a shame that LucasArts fail to realize that RC did open up some elements to the SW universe in which case, creating a new Clone unit and a SBD that looked superior and in my opinion, "semi-accurate". But also, RC was all about you and a squad destroying places from behind the scene and I would've wished that more levels, more stories were told about these guys but I guess it's not going to happen unless the original developer were developing this game again.

On the other hand, the released Star Wars Pack did include RC so I guess LucasArts is offering a second opportunity for gamers to at least see what RC was like and that it is part of the SW Universe.
