It would help us to help you if you were to provide more detailed information such as any munge errors or an error log. Check the FAQ if you must.

My skins dont seem to work I followd everything on this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKcG0kgqEsM

I was so excited to find out if all of my hard `GIMPY` work, worked :P

Detailed Problem: When i try and load my map on swbf2 it crashes at the end of the loading, I munged my files as:

Worlds: BFD (The world im trying to get my skins to work on)
Sides: rep (The side that I have skinned)

I also tryed giving it a clean by pressing the button on visual munge that said clean and re-munging it and it did not make a differnce.

I know that this question is going to come up and yes when I opened up VisualMunge I opened it up from my Data_BFD folder.

What I may have been messing up on is that I am pasting the common folder in C:\BF2_ModTools\data_BFD\Sides.
Should it be in C:\BF2_ModTools\data_BFD\Sides\rep

Yes I am using the right commmon folder from C:\BF2_ModTools\assets\sides

I would really appriciate if someone could help me out because they would be my hero  ;P

Oh and if you could request any other tutorials or document(s) that would be amazing thx guys
Looking forward to hear your answers :D

The Common folder should be in dataBFD/SIDES; you have it in the right spot.
Do you have any mungelog or error log messages?
Also, on a hunch, post your LUA.

LUA sorry can you just give me a little directory where it should be and ill post it thx

Also I cleaned out EVERYTHING from visual munge and then when I remunged it I only did munge:

Worlds: BFD Side: REP

was I supposed to munge ``EVERYTHING`` again ?

heres my error log [Munge log you mean, -Staff]

You should munge everything under sides, if you only choose rep it doesn't munge the common folder.

Also, it seems you didn't uncheck RLE compression when saving your textures.

Did you put the dc before this:

Code: Select all

ReadDataFile("SIDE\\rep.lvl",
So it looks like this:

Code: Select all

ReadDataFile("dc:SIDE\\rep.lvl",
?

no I dident put dc before as I was not instructed to do so, and I already munged`tryed mungine ``EVERYTHING`` and it dident work but Ihad a useless folder in there with other msh and .tga so thats proably the reason Ill jst take it out and munge everything again and it should work

thx guys but why do I put ``dc`` in front

also I dident turn RLE Compression off for only 1 of the textures would that be the cause for the loading crashes?

"dc:" tells the game to look in the addon map's directory for the file, rather than the default directory under Gamedata/data.

Also, if you've cleaned everything, make sure you remunge the world's common folder (the checkbox) at least once, preferrably after you've altered the lua. Btw, the lua is under data_BFD/Common/scripts/BFD.

I also suggest reading the documentation that came with the tools at least twice, along with the tutorials in the FAQ thread here. Even more info can be found here, but definitely go over the previously mentioned docs and tuts, since they will help you the most at the start.

Edit: Yes, RLE compression for any texture will cause a crash. It shows in the mungelog.

So is it optional for the dc to be added?, depending on what folder you have your .tgas in?

If you're making a new side, even if you're just remaking a stock side, you need to use dc. Unless you're making a full on side mod, that new rep side is going to appear in your map's directory (Gamedata/addon/BFD/data/_LVL_PC/SIDE), not under Gamedata/data/_LVL_PC/SIDE where the game is set to look by default. In other words, if you leave that line in your lua unchanged, the game will simply load the rep side that came with the game instead of your side.

It has nothing to do with the where your tga files are. What matters is where the lvl files are.

oh alright that makes perfect sence dident understand at first, so basically once i viusual munge it all of my files and tga merge into a .lvl file for that unit then I add it to the side folder inside of my DATA_BFD (my .wld file) and just overwrite the pre exsisting .lvl file for that particular unit?

Re: ERROR: please help

The tgas and whatnot are merged into a lvl file, but VM copies the new rep.lvl file to your map's side folder. All you need to do is setup and munge the side.

alright I have done that step exactly and was wondering what was wrong but the problem was that I did not put dc infront of any of the files so once have that It should workl sinmce I have all of the lvl files in the right place

also cleaned and munged everything (not sure if I have to munge the side that I modded after I munged everything I higholy doubt it, but I just wanna make sure)

The map seems to crash, usually once I see what side selection screen it will crash about a second after I see it.

So thats probably a scripting probelm when its crashing so once I place in the dc It should work right?

and could you just tell me where I am supposed to put dc

If you could do that you will be my  hero  , if it works of course

Data_BFD\Common\Scripts\ If it's clone wars conquest then BFDc_con open it with notepad
and scroll down to this:

Code: Select all

ReadDataFile("SIDE\\rep.lvl",
then change it to this:

Code: Select all

ReadDataFile("dc:SIDE\\rep.lvl",

Ya it does not give me the option to open it with note pad what should I do?

wait I just figured something out do I right click it go to properties and change the file to .txt then edit it then change it back to a lua?

ya i dident have that option for some reason, but the way I did it was go to properties then change it to a .txt file then when I was done I changed it back to a .lua file.

The file no has a notepad symbol and is .lua is tht what how it should be?

also under `Type`it says `Text Document`and I can already see this in beinga huge pain in the Diet Dr. Pepper problem

is it supposed to be switched back to LUA because I have no clue how to

If you double-click on it and it opens, yes.
