WIP - Battle of Hoth
I've been browsing through the maps available for Star Wars Battlefront II, and it occured to me there were almost no Hoth maps! What's the deal?
The Battle of Hoth has got to be one of my favorite battles in the entire Star Wars saga, and I think its time we brought this great battle to Battlefront II.
This map will feature Conquest in both Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War, however, most of the work will be on Galactic Civil War. There will also be a "Realism Mode," which is only for Galactic Civil War. I'll get some details up on this later.
The map layout is not entirely the same as in the movies; I am trying to strike a balance between playability and realism.
Vehicles for Galactic Civil War are Snowspeeders and TaunTauns for the Rebels, AT-ATs and AT-STs for the Empire. Clone Wars vehicles are undecided, but will likely include the AT-TE.
There are trenches everywhere, used by the Rebels as cover. Several Command Posts are located within trenches, making them difficult for the advancing Imperials to capture. The AI units often use these trenches to snipe from.
There are two Rebel hangers, each of which spawn four snowspeeders. These two hangers are connected by the tunnels in the back. There is a Command Post in each of the hangers, and one in the tunnels. (The command room)
Several bunkers scattered across the map hold Command Posts and provide cover for the Rebels as they fire rockets and turrets at the advancing AT-ATs.
Now, on to the screenshots.
Overview of the central battlefield.
The Imperials attacking a trench.
The Rebel hangers.
The Shield Generator.
A tunnel Command Post.
What is Hoth without AT-ATs?
"We're hit!"
Luke, in his pilot uniform, slaughtering Snowtroopers.
Fighting in the tunnels.
A view of the AT-ATs from a Rebel bunker.
Could someone send me some realistic lasers for realism mode? Please PM me if you have some that you are willing to donate. (You will be credited, of course.)
Comments? Suggestions? Post 'em here!
P.S. Aren't you glad its not another Geonosis map?

Why is it that whenever I think up a cool idea, someone else starts on it first?
Lol well anyways, if you look at the movies the lasers are a reddish-orange with a bright red glow to them. So thats what you should make the blaster_ord.tga look like. Also, there was a lot of debris everywhere (like in the shipped Coruscant map) and the was a lot of snow flying in the wind making a very thick ''snow fog" effect. If you look carefully, you will see that the blizzard off in the distance almost completely covers up the ATATs in the beginning of the battle. If you look carefully at the rebels as they line up in the trenches, you will see them not only carrying the standard Rebel rifle but also E-11s (look at the movie very closely) and minigun turrets (like the ones in Naboo: Prototype). They use the same models as those auto-turrets in Hoth campaign and hunt except these can be manned. Look carefully at the movie and you can see them in the trenches too. You know, with the single narrow barrel and the three legs?
That's the turret I'm talking about.
Good Luck!

There probably won't be any Clone Wars custom sides.Achronos-117 wrote:Are you going to make cold assault troopers? And will all of the Imperials be snowtroopers including officers?
Not all Imperial troopers are snowtroopers. There are also AT-AT pilots and General Veers.
I think I'll add a seperate mode for multiplayer. The map is really boring with only 60 units per side (since it is fairly large), but having multiple players should heat the fun up.Teancum wrote:Don't forget, we now know that the max number of units in-game at once that will work in multiplayer is 120. So make sure units = 120 or smaller. Otherwise you'll get MP crashes.
The AT-ATs are unedited as of now.XxDepredationxX wrote:Hoth map eh, some snow to cover all the dust from geonosis You can also get some Ehco base references from JKA and add the bacta room and that huge bacta tank where Luke was in. Btw did I saw some extra hydrolics(sp?) at the AT-AT's legs?
How far into the game would I find Echo Base in JKA? I just bought it about a week ago, and I'm waiting for it to be delivered.
