So, how is it?

How is EAW?

I played the demo and thought it was good but the map sizes (esp. ground maps were far too small. Is it the same in the full game? Iv seen pics of the taris and coruscant maps (which look very similar) and they seem tiny and not very impressive visually(but then again screenshots dont always do games justice).

Im being very careful from now on when buyin LA games.

Please give a small balanced critique and take into account that 'new game feeling' (will it hold you for a decent amount of time? ).

fv maps are definitely larger than the demo map, but not humongous. the campaign maps are differently sized, and i've only played one skirmish map (tatooine) so i cant really tell you how they compare. and nice catch on the taris/coruscant similarities, i've played a couple of urban levels, and they do all seem very similar visually. there's probably enough variety as far as other terrain maps tho that i dont see this as a real problem. the way the game looks will depend on how good your computer is.

The fv maps are quite impressive, especially hoth and sundor. Haven't played much of conquest, but the skirmish maps seem to size on how many playing. Playing on some of the CW origin maps seems a bit akward... i mean i can almost picture at-te's instead of at-ats on Geonosis. As for the units and such, the game gives a good feeling of "expendability", especially with the lighter units. It saddens me that once you get up to higher levels where the at-at and t4-b are available, all other units seem trivial in the fight. While that notion doesn't transfer as well to space combat... spamming ISD's and Mon Cals seem to be the best tactic.

can you build bases and units during a skirmish

in a sense yes, you can build bases, but only using preplaced build pads. When building units you train them from the respective building and place them like reinforcements.

dipstick, you cant build the unit production buildings, they are preplaced, but you can capture mining facilities (or special structures i think) and build turrets on buildpads, like astute said. and yes, you build units and they go in your "reinforcements" you can summon them whenever (at a reinforcement point on land, or anywhere in space), assuming you have enough pop space to. afaik the space in your reinforcements queue is unlimited.

off-topic: astute, since you've played more skirmish or mp than me, have you figured out how to repair a destroyed building? i think i saw the ai do it once, i'm curious to know how (i haven't needed to yet, but i'm sure i will at some point).

First mod, possibly a fix on the pop cap, its only 9/9

Yeah, i think i figured it out once, you right/left click on the building after its damaged. From what i can tell it only works on main structures and not mining sites or small build platforms.

ah okay. yeah, i figured it wouldn't work on mines/buildpads, but (at least in the campaign) if you sell whatever you've constructed on a buildpad, you will be able to replace it with something else without having to recapture it with infantry (assuming there's no enemy around). or you can just sell something thats damaged and then rebuild it to full health.

what exactly do you mean by the pop cap is 9/9?

a mod that i would really, really, really like to see (but i'm not sure how possible it is) would be to add in veterancy to the game. seriously, there's no reason for them not to have included it, it fits in so perfectly with the idea of galactic conquest.

9/9 just seems like a small pop cap, i mean 15/15 or 25/25 would really be cool, especially for space battles.

It is good. However the thing I miss the most is the resource management, believe it or not. There's something strategic about placing your buildings so that if the enemy somehow gets inside your base, you minimize your losses. Also being able to place multiple turrets is something I do to make sure no one gets in but the fact that the game only has premade slots kind of takes that element away in favor of battles. If they put the resource management and building placement back in, plus veterancy for units, perhaps in an expansion, then the game would be near perfect.

I'm definately not buying this game. I liked the demo but not enought to buy the whole game.
