Post by deathmaster »

uhhhhh, can someone help me. I downloaded i demo of a game today, and it is in a "unreconizable format" anyone know what format is generally used, like what program is used to read it so i can install it? i know its not damaged files, i tried it in a different format and it opened, but it was a text document or something and wouldn't give me an option to install it

what extension does the download have? for instance .exe or .zip or .rar etc... knowing that will enable us to tell you what you need. :)

ooookkkk. Definately need more info. Look at it from our point. You have a problem opening or installing some program with some extention on some operating system, but you were able to open it under some other extention with some other program. Pretty broad subject there to ask for specific help. That's like when my wife asks me where I've been and I say "Out with a person in a vehicle at sometime during the day somewhere in Texas. I told someone to tell you."

LOL, usualy installers are .exe files and they open them selfs. But there are some files that i don't know the extension of that can only be opened using Windows instaler, i think it's something like .msi, and this could be a problem if you'r using mac or linux

Windows Installers are *.MSI files... But if you can't open that sort of files on Linux or MacOS, you might use InstallShield products to extract their contents and install them "manually"...

:P that MAY be a slight problem...ur comp is buggred if u cant open .exe files.
WinRar is used for opening .zip or .rar compressed files.

try just double clicking on the .exe

Yeah, just double click on it. Don't have any program try to open it. .exe are exactly that. Executables. They run on their own. If your computer can't run an .exe then you may have bigger problems then a game demo.

If it's a .zip or .rar then its one of those manual installs (Like the Rome: Barbarian Invasion demo.... just gives you a bunch of files in a zip to be placed into certain directories you have to make..)

If you don't have a clue what it is, just right click it and click the properties tab. It should say Application under file type if its a .exe.
