Strategy & tactics (Conquest)

I haven't found any topics about this, so I might as well start one. Please note that I'm always playing solo against the AI in Conquest mode, but feel free to contribute ideas that apply to human vs. human play. I'm also not really interested in space battle strategy.

Do you have some basic strategy for particular units...?
Do you count your shots and time your reloading? Do you try to keep the weapon overheat gauge below a certain level so you're always able to shoot? Is one class generally better than others, or do you choose a soldier class for particular maps or strategies? (There are some that I never play.) Where do you aim? (head, body, lead the target?) If you're a sniper, do you go for headshots or two to the body? What about with the regular blaster rifle or the shotgun? Is the recon droid good for anything, really? Is the rocket launcher + mines unit only useful on maps with small choke points? How often do you change your unit within a single life, and why?

...or in general?
Do you ask AI teammates to follow you around? Is there a particular class you like to have with you? Is there a way to make them actually fire at the enemy while they follow you, instead of just watching you die like they usually do? Is it worthwhile to take them to health droids or steer them to health powerups? Under what circumstances do you release them from your command?

Are there generally key command posts to take over and mount an assault from, or abandon for practical reasons because they'll be so easily recaptured? For example, is it wise to forgo nearer CPs to go after the enemy CP where their vehicles spawn?

Do you target enemies with the lock-on or just freestyle with the reticle? When do you zoom in to shoot? How sensitive should the look controls be? Is it worth playing in first-person view for certain purposes?

When do you roll, and in what direction? Do you try to roll toward cover, teammates, orthogonal to the direction of enemy fire, along the direction of enemy fire, only for evasive maneuvers or also offensive? Do you conserve your stamina? Does running serve a purpose other than getting to certain parts of the battlefield sooner (i.e., offense/defense)?

What do you do when...
  • a droideka gets you in his sights
  • a jedi/sith is running toward you / throwing his saber at you
  • the AI enemy has many more reinforcements
  • one of your command posts is being attacked and you can spawn on it to defend?
  • you are the very last man versus several enemy bots
  • the reinforcement count for your team says 1, the enemy has 7-8 reinforcements or more, but some of your AI teammates are alive, so you have to babysit them
  • you are down to only one command post (defend or advance?)
  • you are being hacked and/or swung at with a lightsaber (avoiding getting stunned and killed, or the simultaneous saber death between jedi)
With heroes...
How does your strategy differ as lightsaber/melee heroes vs. gunner heroes? Always focus on racking up kills, or go after command posts instead? Is it ever worthwhile to get in a vehicle?

I could probably think of more, but let's call this a good start. Feel free to address as many of these questions as you want.

Do you have some basic strategy for particular units...?
Do you count your shots and time your reloading? I dont :P Do you try to keep the weapon overheat gauge below a certain level so you're always able to shoot? I do if i can. Is one class generally better than others, or do you choose a soldier class for particular maps or strategies? (There are some that I never play.)Some units are better than others on the maps. Rifleman is not so good on all. The way to pick the unit for a map is, find the one which is easiest for you to use, one that makes the most kills and lest deaths. Where do you aim? (head, body, lead the target?)Head, body. If you're a sniper, do you go for headshots or two to the body?Hit what you can hit, only if its a kill shot. What about with the regular blaster rifle or the shotgun? They are good for some things. Like close range sniper kills. Is the recon droid good for anything, really? no. Is the rocket launcher + mines unit only useful on maps with small choke points? no, you got to know how to use them :D How often do you change your unit within a single life, and why? When the bar gets red, and to stay alive.

...or in general?
Do you ask AI teammates to follow you around? not in multiplayer, it causes you to get found. Is there a particular class you like to have with you? no. Is there a way to make them actually fire at the enemy while they follow you, instead of just watching you die like they usually do? no Is it worthwhile to take them to health droids or steer them to health powerups? maybe. Under what circumstances do you release them from your command? when you are going to die.

Are there generally key command posts to take over and mount an assault from, or abandon for practical reasons because they'll be so easily recaptured? For example, is it wise to forgo nearer CPs to go after the enemy CP where their vehicles spawn? I try to get the highest points, vehicle spawn points or anywhere they have an advantage.

Do you target enemies with the lock-on or just freestyle with the reticle? It depends on how you play. When do you zoom in to shoot? Sniping. How sensitive should the look controls be? I don’t know. Is it worth playing in first-person view for certain purposes? no.

When do you roll, and in what direction? You roll to doge things, but the direction you use the force on… Do you try to roll toward cover, teammates, orthogonal to the direction of enemy fire, along the direction of enemy fire, only for evasive maneuvers or also offensive? to cover, to enemy fire (me), any. Do you conserve your stamina? If you know you will need it, yes. Does running serve a purpose other than getting to certain parts of the battlefield sooner (i.e., offense/defense)? Run from a rocket, laser, engineer, mine and mine…

What do you do when...
  • a droideka gets you in his sights take cover
  • a jedi/sith is running toward you / throwing his saber at you Drop a mine / roll away
  • the AI enemy has many more reinforcements keep alive and make more kills
  • one of your command posts is being attacked and you can spawn on it to defend? drop a mine at the unit/person
  • you are the very last man versus several enemy bots use a sniper (single player)(if it like that in multiplayer, just die)
  • the reinforcement count for your team says 1, the enemy has 7-8 reinforcements or more, but some of your AI teammates are alive, so you have to babysit them It depend on who’s the last reinforcement
  • you are down to only one command post (defend or advance?) Advance to the far cp, unless you have less men
  • you are being hacked and/or swung at with a lightsaber (avoiding getting stunned and killed, or the simultaneous saber death between jedi)
Drop a mine or run like Diet Dr. Pepper

With heroes...
How does your strategy differ as lightsaber/melee heroes vs. gunner heroes? Doge the lasers, and jump to the enemy. Always focus on racking up kills, or go after command posts instead? Both. Is it ever worthwhile to get in a vehicle? Depends on the planet.

I could probably think of more, but let's call this a good start. Feel free to address as many of these questions as you want.

Do you have some basic strategy for particular units...?
Do you count your shots and time your reloading? Not really Do you try to keep the weapon overheat gauge below a certain level so you're always able to shoot?Nope. Is one class generally better than others, or do you choose a soldier class for particular maps or strategies?engineer is usually the easiest. He's got a powerful mine/timebomb for viechles, a shotgun for normal troops, can hack people out of viechles, and has health packs. Personally, I like the rifleman. (There are some that I never play.) Where do you aim? (head, body, lead the target?head) If you're a sniper, do you go for headshots or two to the body?pretty much anywhere. Usually, they already have enough damage for a 1 shot kill no matter what What about with the regular blaster rifle or the shotgun?blaster rifle=head shotgun=general direction of player Is the recon droid good for anything, really?heck no Is the rocket launcher + mines unit only useful on maps with small choke points? Are you kidding me? He was the only reason i made it through the beginning of the game. it was the only way I could kill someone.:] How often do you change your unit within a single life, and why?stragetic reasons, like if there happens to be a large tank coming towards you while you being a lowly rifleman.

...or in general?
Do you ask AI teammates to follow you around?in singleplayer Is there a particular class you like to have with you?enginner and rocketeer. Or, on Conversion Pack maps, the Commando. Is there a way to make them actually fire at the enemy while they follow you, instead of just watching you die like they usually do?no Is it worthwhile to take them to health droids or steer them to health powerups?not really. They die fast anyways. Under what circumstances do you release them from your command?never

Are there generally key command posts to take over and mount an assault from, or abandon for practical reasons because they'll be so easily recaptured? For example, is it wise to forgo nearer CPs to go after the enemy CP where their vehicles spawn?Usually both teams have viechles, but on some maps, like Dagobah, it's usually not worth the effort to take/retake the central command post, as it is never held by one team for more than 30 seconds

Do you target enemies with the lock-on or just freestyle with the reticle?Freestyle When do you zoom in to shoot?I usually always have 3rd person zoom on. I like the look better. Is it worth playing in first-person view for certain purposes?for zooming in without the sniper rifle.

When do you roll, and in what direction?I roll when i feel like it. :] Do you try to roll toward cover, teammates, orthogonal to the direction of enemy fire, along the direction of enemy fire, only for evasive maneuvers or also offensive?mostly for evasive Do you conserve your stamina?sometimes Does running serve a purpose other than getting to certain parts of the battlefield sooner (i.e., offense/defense)?running away from people...and large explosives...

What do you do when...
  • a droideka gets you in his sightsrun like Diet Dr. Pepper. Unless I have a chaingun on Kamino. There, i managed to survive against like 20 in a row.
  • a jedi/sith is running toward you / throwing his saber at yourun away
  • the AI enemy has many more reinforcementsMake the reinforcement count more to my liking. The game gives you weapons for a reason.
  • one of your command posts is being attacked and you can spawn on it to defend?SUICIDE BOMBER
  • you are the very last man versus several enemy botsSimple. Kill them
  • the reinforcement count for your team says 1, the enemy has 7-8 reinforcements or more, but some of your AI teammates are alive, so you have to babysit themFAKE CONSOLE TIME. :funny2: Nah. I just get really annoyed, and go kill everyone else
  • you are down to only one command post Depends on the position. If it's defensible, I defend. Otherwise, I go get another one
  • you are being hacked and/or swung at with a lightsaber In the words of 501st_Commander, Run like Diet Dr. Pepper
With heroes...
How does your strategy differ as lightsaber/melee heroes vs. gunner heroes?Gunner=SNormal troop stragety Jedi=run and kill Always focus on racking up kills, or go after command posts instead?Generally, i just kill people Is it ever worthwhile to get in a vehicle? For transportation
