Strange Cloth problem/error

Post by AgentSmith_#27 »

I've been trying to work with cloth in XSI lately, and this is all I come up with. It's above his right thigh, It's supposed to be a continuance of the static robe geometry on Kenobi, but all I get is a single strip, like so

Were you attempting to set up the cloth geometry with cloth physics? It looks like the cloth is static in your images and is also being backface culled, cloth physics set up properly never culls ingame. If you don't want cloth physics and the geometry has no thickness then you'll need to select the cloth polygons then set the transparency slider to 2 in Edit Flags so you can see it from both sides.

The cloth actually had considerable thickness, and that piece that is seen isn't static in-game, it flaps around when you move.. Strangely when I tried to set the transparency slider to 2 xsi crashed on me when I tried to export... It was doing that before but I thought I fixed it by fixing the cloth geometry up by welding all edges together

Edit: I just tried it with a different model and it also crashed XSI

Geometry set up with cloth physics shouldn't have thickness since it will become double-sided ingame anyway, this is why cloth with physics never culls. Don't set the transparency slider to 2 for geometry with cloth physics, transparency settings for cloth is handled through the cloth ODF and not through XSI. A crashing exporter could indicate bad geometry, welding it would be a good start since it reduces the number of overlapping points.

Well I fixed the crashing I believe, but I still get the same error in-game

Setting up cloth in XSI is simple, any errors you encounter is most likely the result of user error. If this is your first time setting up cloth I suggest going through the steps again until you get it right since something in the process may have been overlooked but I/we don't know the exact details of your workflow since you have not really told us anything. All I know so far is that you have a converted player model that has a cloak with cloth physics that backface culls ingame.

What version of XSI are you exporting from? Some folks in the past have claimed that versions older than 5.11 have issues when exporting cloth though I can not confirm this since I only use 5.11 but developers for SWBF2 also used versions older than 5.11 given the time frame of release so theoretically there should be no problem.
