As the title hints, I am having a problem. Ever since I got a new HDD, Windows Media Player will not play dvds, it says I need to buy an encoder. So, does anyone know how to solve this?

Related: I need a way to get the audio from DVDs, any ideas?

I would use the VLC Media Player. It's free and its really good. Plus you can rip an entire DVD, but I'm not sure about taking the sound off, but maybe though.

To play DVD's, if you don't like VLC, download the KLite Codec pack. As for the audio, I don't really know

Once you're able to get the DVD's to play, you can try recording its audio straight off from your computer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfdzx7mr51Y

While I believe it is somewhat acceptable to record another game's sound externally (Recording the sound with a... recorder pressed against the speakers) , ripping the actually audio from the disc is illegal to my knowledge.
