The new lighting isn't really so new- Notch actually integrated an insanely popular mod formerly known as "Better Lights" into the game. I've had it for a few weeks.
On a different note, my game is completely screwed. I lost an awesome world and all my hard-bred horses when the game updated and all the mod compatibility was screwed over, and for some reason I can't even craft beds.
EDIT: Whoah. There is some sweet stuff that you can find using the seed generator. Use the seed -11. I got this: Yes, I know there's a creeper in there. But I'm so turning that spot into my base of operations.

Man, I'm updating now, I'm pumped. So far sharks, beds and seed generators. Can't wait.

Woah! How does this all work? First of all, I didn't even know about sharks. Secondly, I read seed generator and sort of blew it off. How does it work? Do you load a semi-preset chink into your map?

Sharks were a mod.
Also, with the seed generator, you just type in a character combination and then it generates your map. However, using the same exact seed as someone else will actually give you the same exact world, just usually with a different spawn. In some cases, such as -11, though, you'll get just about the exact same spawn as everyone else.

Well I feel embarrassed, but thanks for telling me Fluffy. The seed Glacier is pretty cool. Huge monoliths and some formations in the sky.

It significantly improves FPS. I.e. I don't have to close explorer.exe to get 30+ FPS, and I can play music in iTunes and still get 38-42 FPS

1.4 is out now and it kind of angers me, just because my computer hates to run MC without Optimine installed, and it (along with every other mod) hasn't been updated to 1.4 yet, and I want to assemble a pack of wolves. Badly.
