Dec 20th, 2011.
I got a e-mail saying 22 December, but I guess 22 Dec is Europe and 20 Dec for US.

Does anyone else dislike the art direction of this game? They borrow imagery from the movies too heavily and the characters are ridiculously overdesigned.

I've mentioned this many times before here. My biggest issue(only issue really) with KotOR was the fact it took too much from the movies. In 4000 years, things would have been so different, it would be un-recognizable. Then when I saw the trailers for TOR, I was like...
I think TOR is going to be a great game, but even if I had the money I would not get it. If I wanted clones, star destroyers, droidekas, Han Solo/Cad Bane mash-ups, Millennium Falcons, Tie Fighters, etc etc, I would stick to the movie timeline. I want completely new stuff when I want KotOR, not the same exact stuff with a slight makeover.

I thought the original KotOR games borrowed from the movies in a tasteful way - a lot of the elements in the games were parodies of existing elements from the the movies, but they still had their own unique flair. The art style of TOR still doesn't bother me that much, but I agree that the developers have gone a little overboard in the amount of material they have borrowed from both the movies and the KotOR games. Everything just comes off as somewhat generic or stereotypical.

Gameplay wise it's very typical MMO. As for the art style and borrowing material, while yes I agree that over the period of 4000 thousand years things would look very different, maybe people in the Star Wars Universe don't mind changing things that much up? It's atleast because Bioware didn't want to alienate fans. Have people coming in expecting Star Wars and end up getting nothing at all Star Wars like.
Personally I like the TOR art style.

I don't have a problem with the art style at all. The thing is for me that I want something different, if I want the same thing I'll stick to the CW and GCW eras. I'm also not a huge MMO person, I played a little WoW(little as in like 25 minutes). I played a few hours of Runescape, but that's my experiance with MMOs. TOR looks like it will be a great game, and I hope it brings WoW to it's knees, if for no other reason that Star Wars should always be #1.

Your post didn't really add anything. More of a sidenote thing. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I've probably done it myself, but I didn't see where you were going with it.
I have like no MMO experience and I don't like the genre, but I may suck it up for TOR.

I am thrown off by what you meant by this.

This. I've been playing through the beta, and quite honestly, I can't focus on that game long enough to get past level 10. I have a feeling, though, that it will be ten times more fun playing with people I know, so I've set aside enough money for the game and a three month subscription. Combine that with the 30 days you get when you buy the game, that's four months for TOR to impress me. If it can't, I'll say that I gave it a fair shot, then move on from MMORPGs forever. If a star wars MMO can't sway me, nothing will.

Well, I'll try to clarify my poorly structured sentence.
TOR seems way to much like episodes 1-6. If I want to have the same experience, I'll stick to the characters I actually know already. I see no point in learning about all these TOR characters when they seem like the same stuff with a slight makeover. I want to have new characters, not Han Solo wannabees.
Sorry if my 2 cents isn't worth your time.

Dude, I'm exactly the same way. I've never been a big fan of the TOR era and have always preferred the CW/GCW eras better but this game looks cool and I'll give it a try. Why couldn't they just give us a MMO where we already know the characters, weapons, vehicles, etc. without having to come up with a totally new one. But then again, LA never has listened to their fans...

Actually I would argue that most fans want a new story with characters we've never seen before, so I think LA is doing the right thing. My issue is that TOR feels less like it's own era in
Star Wars history and more like a hodgepodge of... well, the
entire SW history. KOTOR managed to create it's own unique galaxy and place in time while still maintaining the classic
Star Wars feel. TOR seems more like it's interested in taking all of the cool SW elements and cramming them into one package rather than creating something original.

Thank you Era. That's the point I'm trying to make via my unstructured sentences. I still see it as they want to keep things similar to not drive away fans. Which I'm fine with.

I guess this is just another precaution to ensure they can make some profit. From what I've pieced together, EA and BW haven't "thrown in their whole hand", with BF3 and ME3 on the horizon. LA, CMIW, has thrown their hand on the table. Just what I think right now.

I can afford it but I still don't think any game is worth paying money like that to play, my PC could also run it effortlessly so that's no a problem either. I like the kotor era, actually far better than CW but GCW is best and galaxies has been free with private servers for a long time so I'll just stick with that. Although it's still beta but playable.

I would like to have it, but first my computer isn't enough powerfull, and second i don't want to pay 15 euros/month and third i have never played or tested a MMORPG. And i love the style of TOR, with all the new characters, armors etc... but the problem: it looks like they have a more advanced technology compared to the films (like cw compared to gcw). But it looks like a very good game, they have worked a lot on it.

Got my Beta invitation yesterday as they want Australians and New Zealanders to test the US servers, since we do not get our own. Currently downloading the client.

Just saw a trailer for the space combat, looks pretty terrible, total rail shooter, looks like playing starfox.

I concur. :plokoon:
The rest of it I am told, and from what I gather, is awesome. I just am not into pre-movie era stuff. I love post-era. I want a MMO set during the Thrawn Trilogy.
