Cancel? No. Dropping the "III" seems to be quite the wise decision. They actually have an announcement out. As I've said before, I hope, nay, I PRAY, that DICE have done their homework. battlefield and Battlefront are very similar in some aspects, yes, but Battlefront always had Single Player to back up Multiplayer, and it's had that in all four iterations so far. I'm not expecting handheld versions or anything like that - heck, that'd be a miracle. What I am expecting is a decent single player experience, with an Instant Action mode. Reinforcements would be a nice return too. I'm not too fussed about unit selection - a decent five or six units would be healthy enough, but I'd love to see heroes return. I concur about the seamless space-to-ground mechanic - it's not really something that I want from Battlefront, or if it is there, it needs to be integrated properly unlike it was in Elite Squadron, whereby it had almost no impact on the actual battle itself.
All in all, at the end of the day, I do think DICE has it in them to create a truly great Star Wars: Battlefront game, III or not.

After that conference, they could sway me pretty easily. There was nothing
bad that they had, and it's pretty clear that they're trying to get people back. Look at Battlefield, they addressed a HUGE number of concerns about BF3 MP in just 5 minutes of gameplay.

As happy as I am, I still believe in the SWBF3 curse. CuuUuuUuurse!
Every gaming company that has ever tried to develop Star Wars Battlefront III has gone bankrupt (or have a similar thing happen to them). Pandemic. DEAD. Free Radical. KABOOM. Rebellion. Came darn near close.
My heart goes to DICE for their bravery.

I really hope that doesn't happen. This version looks even better than Free Radical's

But EA is a gigantic company I don't really see it going bankrupt soon

I'm sure EA will be fine, I'm talking about DICE.

Umm, you do realize that that was an entirely cinematic teaser, with no shred of gameplay or even in-engine footage. The game is still probably very early in development, with little to show until probably fall/winter.

Yes, but if its even
remotely like that, it will be better.

And yet you're a huge Mass Effect and Mirror's Edge fan.
Not pointing out you specifically, but people need to get off the "it's cool to hate EA" train. They're nowhere near as bad as the whiners on the internet make them out to be.

I don't know about that will, I've heard from several places EA has a lot of people working on this project. By the way, is this a reboot or something entirely different?

That being said, I don't like how they handled things like Spore and Call of Duty. Games like that had the potential to be MUCH better, but EA wanted to rush them to get some quick moolah.
Let's just hope the same doesn't happen to BF3.

EA is totally the worst company ever, because producing video games that some people don't like but a lot obviously do, or they wouldn't be making money on them anyway, is worse than crashing economies and killing baby seals and whatever.

Off-topic: I love how E.A. and Microsoft sort of flipped positions: Microsoft's Xbox One is tanking already 'cause of (basically) DRM features, and E.A. is trying to do some good in order to recover their status as a game publisher.

When I read the title I'm like *OMG INSTANTLY EXCITED!!!! :stormie: :vader2:*
Anyhow, I dont understand all the EA hate. I'm not familiar with how these companies work ( I'm really un-educated here...) and who does what but I don't think that they're terrible. I mean look at battlefield, and mass effect. Sure mass effect 3 ending was a blunder (I know that becuase it's everywhere even though I've never played it) and Battlefield 3 has some issues but I don't think we can blame that all on EA. I think that without EA we wouldn't have Bioware and DICE making great games. After all, DICE is making the next battlefront game, which is under EA (if I'm correct...) As for sports, I dont care for any game thats remotely related to sports except wii boxing which I actually do enjoy. Anyhow, more information about this EA hate would be really appreciated. I feel like I'm missing something. Regardless, as of what I know right now I don't think EA is as terrible as most people make them out to be. I actually think they are trying to do some good, by taking initiative and deciding to go for what fans have wanted for ages: The next Star wars battlefront. Just my 2 cents.

I'm a BioWare fan(been fans of them since Neverwinter Nights, way before they got bought by EA) and a DICE fan. Way too many people blur the line between developer and publisher.
As a publisher, EA has done lots of things that I don't approve of. I don't think they're as horrific as most people make them out to be, I even know why they have been doing these things for five years, but I don't approve.
I have high hopes EA will stop being as dumb as they have been since 2008.
Until they stop doing my biggest problems with them, I'm not going to start being a fan.

Companies bought by EA have gone bankrupt (Pandemic was bought my EA and they don't exist anymore) and it will happen again. Just because you're owned by a big company doesn't mean you can't fail. That being said, DICE has its Battlefield series, so it's not exactly hard pressed for money.
I'd also like to point out that EA itself has been having lots of financial troubles since 2008. However they have bounced back quite a good deal in the past two months, I'm hoping they use that to boost themselves in the right direction.

Wait, if they're not calling it "Battlefront III" then what are they calling it? Just "Star Wars: Battlefront"? Wasn't that the name of a game back from 2004?
And as for mod tools sapping DLC profits, selling a patch that makes mods playable seems smart. Maybe even selling the tools themselves as DLC would be a good idea. It would probably offset the cost of making the tools a bit more user-friendly, at least.
