ALDERAAN: CITY SQUARE

Yeah, since the last topic was deleted, I decided I'd make a new one, so as I can keep you guys up to date on the map's progress. As you may know, this map is the first in a set of (hopefully) three maps. It takes place in the center of the city, and involves intense fighting on both the ground and on top of the skyway. It's more of a big brawl than an actual map, so there's not really any CP capturing involved. But the map is fun, and I know for a fact that you guys'll like it. It takes place between Ep. III and Ep. IV, about five years after the formation of the Galactic Empire. Rebellion is starting to sprout up all throughout the galaxy, and Emperor Palpatine, suspecting that Bail Organa is a traitor to the Empire and helping the Rebel Alliance by supplying them with funds, sends a fleet of the very last of the remaining Clone Troopers to eliminate Bail Organa. Of course, the Alderaanian citizens aren't to happy about all this, and, with help from the Rebel Alliance, were able to conjure up a large defense force so as to combat the Clones.

So far, I've been really busting my Diet Dr. Pepper to get this first map up and running so I can get to work on the second one. And so far so good. The map's almost ready for a release, and all I have left to do is add the new units to the map.

(NOTE: I still have to edit the sides, so those units in the pics are not final. They're simply beta screens. The new units will be in the final release, which I hope will be in the next few days, depending on whether I have the time to work on it or not.)

Very cool screens. It makes me wish BF had better ragdoll physics. :P Can't wait, and good job.

(Don't forget to remove the Spire! see pic 9) :P

Joe's still working on some buildings for me to use so I can replace the spires. He should be done this weekend. For now, I'm just leaving them as is. Don't worry though; they're not going to be there for the final release.

I'll definately try to get it finished this weekend. I do have to work both days, and I'm suffering through a nasty toothache, but I want to get it done so Schizo can finish things up.

Well folks, I got the units working in a test map, but the Alderaan map just doesn't seem to want to take any new units... so I'm trying, but from the looks of it, this map just ain't gonna cooperate.

Here's some screens of the test map:

Clone Trooper (just your basic, run-of-the-mill soldier)

Flametrooper (I'll let you guess what kind of weapons he carries)

For some reason, it says I'm missing something, when it's right there in the goddamn sides folder... kinda pissing me off...

So, in other words, I don't know what the hell's wrong with this map, that it won't take the units. There's absolutely nothing wrong with anything, and I've got everything in order like it should be... would the fact that I made this map in BFBuilder rather than BFBuilder Pro have something to do with it? I don't really know... But, I guess for now, until I can figure out what the hell's wrong with it, the map's on a temporary hold until further notice (don't worry, I will get the map out eventually... but right now, it's just being a real Diet Dr. Pepper, and I'm tired of dealing it). I'm just going to go and work on another map for now (Endor space battle, methinks; a map I've been wanting to do for a long time...), and come back to this one once I have a better understanding of the units and stuff... I think gettng them into the test map was a pure stroke of luck for me, and I haven't been able to get any more in...

I gotta go for a dentist's appointment in a little bit anyway, so I'm not going ot really have time to work on anything...

Thanks Joe, I'll add those right now. If all's well, and it works, I'll release what I've got done so far. Basically, that's everything but the units. But the map's still fun, nevertheless. I'll go back and add the units eventually, but right now, I just don't feel like dealing with it.

Well, here's what I got done so far. It's got the CW and the GCW, so as it doesn't get too boring, and you can kinda switch between them to mix things up.

The majority of the map itself is done, but there's still a few things wrong with it. Note that it's only a beta, and it's incomplete, so if you find a mistake or something, then you can be pretty sure that I was working on it. But, I just need a break from the map... maybe go and work on another for a while... at least until I can really get the hang of adding the units and everything... I mean, I know how to add them, I just can't get them to work... but I will go back and finish up later. When? Well... whenever I really feel up to it.

But for now, just enjoy the beta. (I even threw in a little "somethin'-somethin'" as a little treat for you guys to make up for the delay on the final version :wink:)

PS: I also love the "little somethin,' although the bots won't use it on their own volition.

Looks great! Now created many maps about Geonosis, Naboo, Tatooine, but not created about Alderaan, Felucia etc.

it's fun to cruise on the skyways with an at-st and pwn rebs sad that bots don't use that tactic

Whoohoo! I can't wait to try it! It'd be cool if you give the rebels their fleet uniforms, but I'm not sure how to do that.

I was going to kinda do that with the Alderaanian guards, but never got around to it. I'll do that later when I work on the rest of the units.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm glad you guys like it. I wasn't all too happy with the outcome, since I wasn't really able to do the units and everything. The bots still need some work too... I'm still trying to figure out why they're not using the vehicles when they spawn... I'm working on it... I figure since you guys like the map so much, I can at least try to fix it up. I'll start that space map later; for now, I'll be working on this, so as I don't have to worry about it, and it's not lingering in the back of my head.

All I really have to do anyway is add a mini-map, add the units, and fix up a couple of the bot paths (Which I've tried and tried to do, but I just can't get some of the bots to move. They seem to just want to hang out at their CP and stand around instead of fighting... Diet Dr. Pepper pacifist Stormtroopers... well, a perk to this is that they do a Diet Dr. Pepper good job of defending it. Hell, on a couple occasions while trying to get to the plaza CP, I was mowed down by enemy fire before I even reached the top of the walkway...)

You might have set a higher priority for the Imps to defend, and so they don't want to do anything but stay there.

Hey Schizo,

I played the map a few times and I think it's pretty #@*$ cool for a BETA!

It does have a few bugs left to work out, and it clearly is meant to be more for Multiplayer.

I looks like I need to adjust the buildings in that image so they're a little higher up 'cause you can only see the very tip top of the highest ones. :oops: And what happened to the mountain?

It would also be beter if the "You're leaving the Battlefield" message wouldn't show up at each end of the skyway.

I figured out the best spot for the Rebels to capture the special CP. If you get ther, the stormies have a very difficult time killing you, but you can just rain down heavenly destruction on them, and capture the CP without even getting close to it. :twisted:
