Tips 'n Tricks - topic

As suggested by Fragme!; here's a separate topic to discuss this stuff. Apparently, the "trick" I used isn't that well known to some who are using XSI.
So, to clarify things without cluttering up the showcase thread, here I go;

Here are some wireframes of my model (up till now, that is):

The red lines are the edges that I marked so that they are read by my modifier. XSI users could decide to, after they've finished all their work on their model, to manually split the edges to get the same effect, but I don't know what the impact of this would be.

I hope that these extra shots may clarify what I did.

After I had learned about the basics of what this modifier did, I came accross this video:

People may get a better grip on this subject after having seen this video.

Oh and lets make this a topic where other people share their tips 'n tricks.

Is this just for models, or could I post some of my texturing tricks too?

Are they texturing tricks in a modelling program? Or in a painting program? If it is a painting program I believe there is a forum or topic for it already. Maybe in media if I locate it I shall let you know.

Edit:back, Have a look in the media forum at the Knowledge Fountain topic, does that come close to what you were thinking?
