Go to the XSI homepage. And for your question, you want someone to post how to do this stuff, when there are already tutorials and docs for this. I don't thing you realize what you're asking, but it seems like someone wasting a good week or so just writing the answer.

Use the modtools version, unlimited use, all the features you'd ever need, and free.
You just need someone else to convert a finished model.

How to get 5.11
go to http://softimage.com
make a account
after loged in go to downloads
click older downloads
then click the pull down a press old versions
look for Softimage|XSI 5.11 Foundation 30 day Freee Trial
then download

but if you want a good version of XSI to model with
i would pick Softimage|XSI Mod Tools 6

This is soooo terribly off-topic!

To answer your question; a building can be anything... To make it work, it will need a parent, called 'dummyroot'. This dummyroot will be the parent of all stuff, meaning you have to drag everything under it in explorer (8) Dummyroot should stay at 0,0,0, and it's a null btw. Line the building up thinking the dummyroot is the middle of the lowest horizontal polygon. With BFII, every model has as parent dummyroot, except for weapons, which use hp_active. I won't tell how to make nice buildings, or texture; follow the xsi docs and or the FAQ. This is really the best answer you can get ;)
