Good Modding Walkthrough

Does anyone know of a better SWBF2 modding guide than the one included in the BF2 ModTools documents? One that really goes step by step.

If that one doesn't agree with you, try Fierfek's, its on SWBFFiles.

Or try the various tutorials in the FAQ thread.

I tried friefryks and it seemed way to advanced for me. But I'll check the FAQ. Thanks. Anyone know of any others.

Honestly, that's about as good as it gets. Maybe it seems intimidating at first, but just read and follow the instructions; it explains everything well. If you lack the basic competence to follow easy instructions, modding is going to be a frustrating experience. Give it a shot. If there's something you don't understand, just ask us GTers, we'll be happy to help. As John F. Kennedy said, "... we pledge our best efforts to help them help themselves ..."

I've never went through Fierfek's tutorial myself, but I've heard good (and bad) things about it. Mostly good.

EDIT - JFK had some interesting ideas on grammer, it seems.

Actually, Ben Franklin, in Poor Richard's Almanac, said "God helps those who help themselves" and JFK in a presidential speech said "help them help themselves". I got a bit confused, too, when I looked up the exact wording and who said it :p (I like to do that before I accidentally misquote someone)

On firefykes there would be parts were he would skip over certain things that wouldn't confuse advanced modders but might cause some trouble for novices (me).

How familiar are you with Windows Explorer? Because I'd say just about 50 to 60 percent of modding SWBF2 is using Windows Explorer.

I'd say I'm pretty good at windows. Its just when it comes to knowing were to copy things and when to do it. And I'm still working on learning all of zero editors features.

He had me proofread through it, and It looked fine to me, covered basics and more advanced things, so It should be a good tutorial for beginning and advanced modders.

Heck, when I have nothing else to do, I go re-read the docs.

On that note, if there is any part of the docs or of Fierfek's tutorial that you don't understand, post that part here and we'll do our best to define it for you in a way that you can understand.

Thanks for the help everyone.

I tried to make my Tutorial as basic as possible, because I always heard about people who couldn't understand the docs. Just take it one step at a time - don't try to jump to the part on custom sides or adding water. If you just read each page fully, it should be easy enough.

Ditto on that. Only reason I'm not modding now is a lack of motivation.
