TIE Defender

This is VERY nearly finished.
Iv just gotta make the Lowrez model and chunks and its ready for liftoff
I had made a Tie Defender a while ago but it got lost when i did a big clearout of files. I started this earlier tonight and im much happier with this version.
I got a real buzz out of seeing 6 lasers blastin away at the rebel scum

I love that ship from X-wing Alliance! Can't wait to try it. It does look a lot better than your first one!

It would be cool if a Ion cannon could be incorerated to take down the Capital ships sheild. (If memory serves me right it had a Ion cannon in X-wing alliance)

Yeah, the Defender has and ion cannon thinger, missle port and a tractor beam. (used for hauling junk or taking ships with low fuel or no capabilities into hyperspace)

The ion cannon shots in alliance were blue, I believe. I wonder how you would balance such a ship without taking away it's "personality." It was kind of overpowered in the games...

What were the ion shots like?
Were they like the normal automatic fast lasers? or charged? or single shot?
After reading about the Defender im makin it the fastest ship with the strongest lasers . HOwerver , I read that the defender could be quite unstable at times so im gonna make it have the lowest health.
Im not sute if its possible to give a flyer 3 weapons .... if not il leave out the missiles.

To make it even more "realistic" you can give him a defilade ability (like the Bothan Spy). But that would make it even more unbalanced

I thought the TIE Phantom was the only ship that could cloak.
@Bandu -- as far as balance goes, weaponry-wise it sounds like it should replace the Bomber -- but if you added in Mini's B-Wing for the Rebels, you could just add another vehicle spawn to each hanger and we'd be golden.

Awesome! although as i recall, the main disadvantage of the defender was its cost - it had shields tho, so in some ways it seems it should actually have more health than regular ties (going off books here, not xwa)...perhaps you could make it so it doesn't respawn very often?

Iv read that it was unstable so lower health than the normal tie should do it.
It just cant be the strongest at everything ..... Im gonna try and make it balance out with the rest of the ships. Its up to the mapper if he wants to make it unbalanced or a kind of 'special ship' that doesnt spawn often.

Yes the Tie defender couldn't cloak. In XWA they wern't god like, but good. I could easily take one out with an a-wing, but awings had sheilds and normal lasers . . .
In all the games i've seen it, the ion cannon was a blue laser that on impact had an electric fx (force lighning impact would be perfect) and in all of them (except rogue squadron) it took damaged a third stat called systems or similar which disabled the vessel: made it immobile, sheild and weaponless. (In rogue squad, being an atmospheric arcadey game, ionized ships just fell to the ground, simply a different impact effect)
Is there anyway to make a weapon that drains target endurace? I guess that would simulate it. Otherwise, just make em blue lasers with an electric impact effect.

XWA seems to have gone off the books too.

Wow. This looks cool. Great job Bandu. Can't wait to fly one of these.
And yeah, like Tean said, this is the perfect ship to counter the Rebels' B-Wing. Give each team a new, "heavy fighter" class of ship. Stronger weapondry than your average fighter, but weaker than a bomber. It'd be cool to have them duking it out in a space map... very cool indeed...
Also, Bandu, since you kinda know how to do animations and all now, might it be possible to make the TIE Hunter from
Rebel Strike? All you'd have to do is make the wings fold out like the X-Wing's. That would make me very happy. I love the TIE Hunter.

nice work Bandu.
you can count on seeing your work in some of my maps this is great.
and so far as balance -
slower than a tie but a bit faster than bomber.
but i would say dont lower health to much...
ion cannons would be okay, but i think it would be fine with just 2 proton torpedoes and 4 lasers.
realistically the only unbalancing factors are speed/agility, and armor.
it could have the greatest weapons in the world, bombs, ion, laser, whatever homing 1 hit kill missles. but it its speed is hindered it is still vulnerable.
what im getting at is i would lean towards realism not balancing the game
