908th attack on Hoth

----Progress----
Sides-90%
Map-68% -edit
Sound-90%

----Story----
A small Republic task force was patrolling Hoth when an unexpected droid attack happed. When Commander Sharp tried to contact them he got no answer. So he, Mace Windu and a large army of troops attacked them they rellised they were attacking an odd of 2 to 1. So the fought and fought and did they win? Thats for you to find out. (if you dont like it post a suggestion)

-- new story --
After the victory in space the Republic found themselves after a new harder CIS army protecting the "ion-crystals" they are using for what the Republic knows as a "super ion-canon". They have know idea what this is for or if its true but they know that they may not survive this battle.............

----My Notes----
1) Please dont ask to be a beta tester. I'll post when I need testers.
2) Any suggestions are welcome.
3) Dont ask when this is comming out. I have no idea, so dont ask.
4) This is my first map, dont kill me if its bad.
5) More screenies are coming.
6) CIS droids are "painted" white to blend in with the snow.

Ok, what i need help with is:
1) combo or somthing for the jawa (F'TAAAAANG) :jawa: so his feet isn't in the ground when he stands :?

Make imrovement suggestions for the map too :)

place some hintnodes.
change the light colour
add some effects
add some more rainshadow regions
add some more objects
add custom sides and missing sounds

I have a snow droid skin if you want it.

And, I know billions of others will say it, so I'll save them the trouble and you the expense: change the sky.

Add some terrain variations and you got yourself a map.

Looks good, kinda large though. Try adding some Republic starfighters for fast travel. Have you ever considered adding a AT-XT to the map?

Why Hoth? Why not another snowy planet that was more significant during the Clone Wars? Hoth wasn't close to being important to anyone until the Rebels needed a secret base. I don't see why the Republic would waste time and money "patrolling" such an insignificant ice ball.

Go search Wookieepedia and find a different snow planet. That, or give a very good reason why the CIS would want to control this particular giant snowball of a planet.

I have my own snow droid skins, but there panitsh.
The sky will be changed after i get that far.
Variations, meaning add some hills, mountans, ex?

Im adding a modified fightertank to it, and droid starfighters. Also the la-at's i edited so they go *much* faster.

why hoth? I just wanted somthing not done and different. The republic did not know the droids were on it untill they got ambushed.

I've seen plenty of Hoth maps. Honestly, it feels a little like one of those overdone planets, like Tatooine and Geonosis. That, and the game already comes packed with a Hoth map. I'd just like to see something that's actually new and creative, not rehashes of the same old. Do what you want, it's your map. I'm just providing my personal opinion.

Fairly sure that Hoth has been done before; by Pandemic, for one.

The sky, yes, needs changing. Also, add some more hills. Also, if you'll take this suggestion, add a heck load of hover-vehicles, and some rremote turrets controlled from within an underground bunker. It'd be cool if they were hidden up on the mountaintops or whatever.


For that matter, what about props? Icicles, snowy trees maybe if you decide to do a planet different than Hoth. Also lots more indoor props in the base.

Hoth has been done - it comes with the game. I'd suggest changing the planet name to Toola or Ando Prime. A few easy-to-do suggestions:

-Change the sky to something else
-Don't make the terrain flat. It makes the terrain look boring. Add a few slopes or hills here and there.
-The hangar seems kind of empty. Perhaps you could add a few more things?

I don't get what these guys are saying it looks great. I think that a big bad gun in that hanger would be useful. A big surprise for the republic. It should be able to take out an at-te in 2 hits. But the beam should be finite and non-explosive so that it can snipe single targets but not rack up dozens of kills. Also some AATs would help out, spread outside the base. As well as several mini-sized hangers each housing a single droid starfighter.

More hills and more hover-vehicles. I'll get that done (soon).
The remote turrets thing, just gave me a very good idea.
Lots of indoor props, I'm making a command center that is made of 2 hangers, so props will be in there, out and all trough the tunnles.

a big bad gun? You have no idea what the at-te, la-at and the HA-ST* (heavy assault speeder tank) does.
the mini hangers is a good idea also.

I've only seen like one or two Hoth maps in the past. And Geonosis is the most used planet for people to create maps on. I'm sick of that planet now...

You guys are paying too much attention to the name rather than the map. I'd suggest you raise patches of the ground with the round rise tool and then use a really light blend.

I agree if the name was anything other than Hoth no one would say anything

As for the actual content of the map which I believe is important It needs a new sky obviously the default yavin one for this one is definitely not a good choice also it looks a tad empty I know there are not a lot of ice props but terrain variation is a key so yea looks good

Looking pretty good. Some Suggestions...
-Change the fog color to white(where everything in the distance turns to blue)
-Add snow .fx
-Add some custom lighting
If you add these it would give it a nice environment.

Here is unit pictures. the clone commander and sharp are "painty" they are references to the not so painty versions ill make soon. Also im trying to get in one more unit on both sides, which i having lots of trouble with, so maybe ill have them in soon.

The unit skins are nice :)
the vehicle skins are a little bit to bright

And some how ... bright and yellow skins don't fit on Hoth very well :S

About the map design.

I think it looks good, buts its flat and empty, maybe you can add a huge hill or something like this
add some effects like da_great_ghost said.

The units look nice, but could you do something about Commander Sharp & the other clone commander? Like add different weapons to them to look different.
