You use the rotoscope option. To enable this, click on one of the tabs at the top of a view(sorry i forget which one) and near the bottom there is an option called rotoscope. click it and then navigate to an image. then that image will appear in the background of that viewport

Use the Rotoscope function.

Epena: I recognized the character as a mandalorian soldier, most likely for the madalorian wars mod that was under way and I don't see how itculd be a school project. it wasn't so much that you're not the maker of it, it's because it could have been intended for private use only.

Ehem. Qdin is in school studying modeling, or something like that. So... his projects are models.

Yeah :P Remember the most important sentence for an animator... :P "Be lazy AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!" lol

yeah - I'm studying as a Multimedia Animator - which is the education  - and I decided to write my report to the IT Exam about creating a Sith Trooper from a 'costumer' aka Epena  and so I wrote my report about putting it into a game: Star Wars: Battlefront 2! :P

I was working from home :D lolz, and it also meant that I got the time to do it, and I didn't had to write a totally new report xD i'll be translating it into English for the English Exam - hahaha

gotta love being lazy! :P

but if you really HAS to see it, i've got 3 images of it:

Wire! Wire! Wire!
awesome texes, making me want to see this in a good per-pixel-lighting-supporting-graphics-engine with a nice specular- and bumpmap.
ANIMATE IT AND MAKE A NICE RENDER SHOWING IT IN ACTION!

yeah Q, I read in a swbf2files newspost by yourself you were making a school project out of it. Looking rather spiffy, I must say.

I'm trying to convince Qdin to add specular to it to make him all shiny. :P

It's actually not for the mandalorian wars mod, but rather for my map. (that I'm wokrin' on with Schizo) It can be used for that if they want granted you give Qdin credit and he gives the public permissino to use it. (which I don't see why he wouldn't, since as most people want their work as far spread as possible..)

He still needs to do a few finalizing touches before he would release it anyways, so stay tuned. :P

Holy sweet heavens ... lord... almighty... Those are sweet! Man! I'll have to do a KotOR map in the future some day. :P

Either that, or make a unique map about the aliens from ID4 vs the CIS. That'd be... woah. Just imagine that? :o

sooo.... i have like 3 threads this would fit into. The WIP-thread, the ROTE4 thread and this one..
I guess i'm gonna post it three times :P

(sorry, big image, if you use 1024x768)

This is not what you will see ingame, since the texes will be 4 times smaller in SWBF2. You will certainly get over it, the difference is not toooo noticable ;))
sorry it's lacking AA, but you know... this is a viewport screenshot actually^^

and yes, i did have fun with the border xD

It is fully rigged by now, i'm still unsure what to do with all those bones now hierarchy-wise. Qdin, prepare for a new Q/A-session xD

@ Qdin-- The sith trooper has come a long way since the last time I saw him. He looks awesome! Once you get him enveloped let me know, I'd like to put him in KotOR hero assault.

@ DooFi -- Swank man, it's really sweet. Looks like a good candidate for a pilotable vehicle.

 Holy DooFi! That's amazing! The only problems I can see with it is that it's way too short (or is it just the camera angle?), and the colours are really dark compared to the images on Wookiepedia. Really nice job though, and awesome texture!

thank you for the kind comments :D
I believe the lenght is okay, because I modeled along the picture from StarWars.com, which includes the most necessary angles. You're right, its a tad darker than on the picture :/ I guess you'll not notice that ingame, since its ought to look dirtier than on the SW.com image ;)

to linus: if its one mesh, you're on the right way. If it consists of 3 cylinders, try to connect them somehow. looks pretty good for the first model actually!
