Okay so, it has potential as a high poly model to get the normal map from. However there's some edges that would need to be beveled to get a really nice normal map on it, specifically any sharp edges like the hand grip. For a high poly model to use for creating normal maps, you don't want any sharp edges. It makes the map look bad afterwords when the light hits these edges.

It's a good model, and you show a lot of potential. Keep at it.

What is the average poly count for a unit. Or still, what is the max poly count for BF2 unit wise?

up to 3000 but thats pretty much the max snd you need lowpoly lowrez (so not just a duplication of your highres, if you do that youll munge forever)

The max for normal units in Unification is 5k tri, up to 8k tri for heroes.

Just sayin.

Ooo, very cool. :o I think a very subtle environment map would look pretty snazzy on the smooth parts. :)

I already have my flags preplanned;
Hidden/Spoiler:
the larger white light at the bottom of the pod will contain render flag 11 glow

hex glow / emissive colors on 2 front white lights / control panel

per pixel lighting / glow / bumpmap on the inside 4 lights of the pod

bump / specular (hex specular and flagged bump) on the black plasticy looking piece

bump mapping / specular on inside 4 panels at back ( with a very weak specular)

env map (which will not be implemented until the room itself is complete as i want each pod to give the illusion of reflecting other pods) / specular on the lighter grey pieces (the exception being bottom of the pod / back door of pod which are planned to have specular / detail map)

There's a model on 3D Warehouse from SWG that is spot on and can be good 3d reference for modeling a higher-res version.

Early wip of my terror bird model

I'm hoping to make it a walker/soldier hybrid like an acklay, if not, then just a walker.

Well, now that I have my new, awesome computer, I got 3DS Max and finally learned how to make something more complex than a box! :o
I present to you, a random battleship gun, a 38cm quadruple gun.

It's not textured (I don't know how to do that yet) and I don't know how to export it or anything (I don't have XSI Modtool anymore), but this is the beginning of something great, I can tell.
Maybe if I ever get to it I can make a sea battle. :)
EDIT:
I just noticed this post was 1 day after the 1 month period, I hope that's okay. :cpu:
