GT Your Call Contest

Post by CCO! »

I'm not the most active member here at Gametoast... or the best modder. But I was just thinking to myself as I searched through the assests for some skins "wouldn't it be cool if we (the gametoast community) could build a collaborative asset pack that had different takes on one centrell theme. So I humbly present
The GAMETOAST Your Call CONTEST

The idea is that the host would present a theme, for our example lets do "non-human rebel soliders" so the host would announce that as the monthly theme and everyone would have all month to make a model and/or skin that reflected that, along with any special weapons they wanted to have. Then all the assests would get put into an assests pack (if the authors wanted their skins released)
So for this example they would be put into the Diverse Rebels pack so now we have had a fun contest and now have some new assets.

So thats my idea.....
Do you like it?

There has been a suggestion for a contest not so long ago (click), of which there still is no outcome (I don't think that'll happen anytime soon).

Maybe you should think of a solid, well thought through plan of rules.
Give yourself a deadline as to when you want the contest to start, so that people have an idea of what to think of this.
Make sure you don't force people who enter in the competition will be made to feel obliged to release their entry as an asset.
It was a good idea to make this look more like a joint project, instead of an easy way of getting assets.

Thank you msfw!

Well I'll get started on the rules.

In this contest participants are encouraged to make their own msh and/or tga files to put a new spin on units that can then be used in battlefront 2 culminating with an assests pack to help modders find objects of use in their maps

Rule 1: No Plagerism what so ever If there is evidence that you copied someone elses assets you will be e-jected

Rule 2: If participants choose to make both a msh and a tga file then they must be for each other. I:E: If CCO! enters a mon calimari model then he can not enter that beautiful tusken skin that he made.

Rule 3: Assets must relate to the contests category. Yes man thats right. Your camoflauged Darth Vader does not fit in with the Clone Vehicle Pilots Category.

Rule 4(more of a notice): The purpose of this contest is to make assets packs for the public to use. Each month(the average run time for a contest) The Host will request all of the entrants permission to make an assets pack. If you would like to withold your skin that is fine.

Rule 5: The host and a secret panel will narrow down all the entrants to two finalists then GT will have permission to vote on these two.

i think it's a really good idea and provides the community with a lot of good new assets but since it is a contest you really need to think of how these things are going to be judged if someone just submits a skin and someone just submits an untextured model, how are the 2 going to be compared are you going to have separate categories or are they going to be the same category. You need some sort of scoring rubric that you will follow because assets, unlike maps can be anything from models, to textures, to .odfs, to effects you need to find a way to either equate every one of these items or you can make separate categories. In order to have a successful contest you must have the rules of the contest 100% spelled out with no ambiguity
