Okay, whenever I make a map and put an object in it, whether it's custom or not, the item doesn't show up. Why? How do I fix this?

You're placing the odf in ZE, right? Not the msh?

Yeah, why? Should I be placing the msh?

I dunno. I'm just making sure, because if you place the msh, then it doesn't show up ingame.

I don't really know what to say then. Unless you're doing something really wrong, like not saving your world in ZE, or not munging correctly, I don't don't know why objects wouldn't show up.

If this is in DMI, make sure you do what Rep posted earlier, to make the game read your layer, and don't forget to save changes to the actual layer aswell.

Well, I haven't tried it in DMI yet, but I was about to.

I had the lack of item placed problem. and what I did to solve it was reinstall all of the modtools
and delete any files that were the data_*** (*** being your three letter planet name).

You munge your map after you place that object, don't you?

I have a weird fix for this that worked for me. Try exporting the file under a different name. You're using mshex right? That's something I still have issues with and that's what works for me.
