Ok, two things to ask this time:

1) how do I make a UV Map? Example picture:

Kinda hard to see it.

My bed was a very simple model, and I could just use Lord Bandu's textureing tut, but things always seem to get complex. So how do I make a UV map?

2) how do I load a msh into XSI?

Like Qdin did for his dead clones, ECT.
Or do I need Foundations to both import, and export?

2) This is where you use 3D converter. Open your msh file with 3D converter and save it as an OBJ. Then open up the OBJ with XSI

no the free version is just for viewing, you have to buy the program to actually export anything. the clone can be opened with XSI, but not mod tools, the scene file is on psychofreds site. for UV maps just start out with the cubic projection and then start selecting polygons (in the UV editor, you can do that) and move them around and connect areas that need to be connected at thier boundaries so you dont get any seams.

Wasn't Fred talking about another 'converter' thingy which is free? I dunno - never found anything about it (but other's did..! I feel so rejected..! >.>)

As far as I know, Fred was talking about the new version(atm the current version) of the 3D converter.

really? I'm not sure - I've just seen him compare those 2 programs..

Maybe I should consult him about it? (Did once, but was on a kinda confused day, so didn't really help alot )

What he means is that you don't get a free one that exports, you can only buy it.

thats right, there is NO FREE software that can export to the .msh format, this question has been answered so many times, i dunno why people still ask it.

I checked in on Ultimate Unwrap 3D, its great and all, but you need to BUY it to export and save stuff. So that sucks, unless we do some unmentionable things you have to be able and willing to pay for the privlige to export on your own.

Why is it alot of great games use file extensions that all free 3D programs never seem to support? I mean, Quake, Halflife (steam engine), and a few other games get all the love from XSI and Gmax while many great moddable games like GTA, SWBF and RC dont.

So how much is this ultamate unwrap, I can't find it.

VF - they also paid the nuts out of their shorts for making it free seriously.. the only way they'll make something free is to get tooooons of money for it.
