Can't play 3D games without...issues... is it my computer?

There's 2 games I try to run (each shooting-related) on this computer, but they are VERY slow. I have more issues with Battlefront II than the other one, and it's quite annoying.

When I launch Battlefront II, it first says, "No TnL support detected on your display adapter. Continue?" When I'm playing on a map, it gets extremely slow unless I turn all settings to the minimum. Even then it's slow. There's no background (sky), just black. Some textures are ridiculously bright. The only fast performance I have ever gotten on any computer (the smoothest animation I've ever seen on any computer, actually) was when I was starting Borus II (stunt course, fun map even with bad performance) and a droid was reloading its weapon on a black background.

Is there a way to fix this on an HP computer? Not many of the HP computer models have decent (or any) graphics cards, just onboard handling or whatever it is. My HP Pavilion is model a705w (Windows XP), if that means anything. The only thing I can figure is that the graphics handler thing sucks at 3D viewing, but I don't know if it has a slot for a graphics card.

If anyone posts any way to fix this, thanks.

It sounds like its just that the graphics power sucks.

And theres now Tnl, which screws up the sky in swbf1. . .not sure about 2.

I think there might be an old work around somewhere, but yeah, you need to upgrade. If your computer only has white pci slots, then you can't get an AGP graphics card (unless you upgrade your MB something I've never done. . . ) and will have to settle for a PCI card. NOT PCI-E or express, those cards are for the newest slot type, PCI-E (duh).

Anyway, this is still vague advice, 'cuase I'm tired and my brains worn out from adding portals and sectors to my map, after a full day. So basically, I'm breaking the ice. . .

On board graphics are not the same as a graphics card. Your computer does not meet the min specs to play SWBF2 (you are lucky the game runs at all).

Get a graphics card. Look at your computer and its manual. Do not go by port color, because that is not standard. You need an open PCI-E, AGP, or PCI port (ordered in preference). PCI-E is the newest, so an 'older' computer will not have them. Your manual will tell you your ports and their locations on the motherboard. Open your computer (when its off and unplugged) and see which ports are full.

Get a graphics card to match the open port and make sure your power supply can handle it.

HP is notorious for skimping on graphics support, even compared to other desktop makers. You need to get yourself a nice graphics card, preferably PCI-E. If your motherboard doesn't support PCI-E, then it looks like it's time you did some computer shopping. :( Gaming is an expensive hobby on the PC.
