How to make a gun??

Ok i posted this in the xsi forum but its like a ghost town down there.

Iv made some model guns and was wondering what the process is for makin it a workin gun in swbf.


any ideas?


EDIT*** lookin thro the odf's all the only hp/null i see is this >>>

FirePointName = "hp_fire"


is that all i add in xsi? or is there more to do?

ok iv just added a hp_fire and it works :D .

I thought it would have been much more complicated .

What does a whacking device (sword, magnastaff, etc) has to have in order for it to work?

all it needs is its base odf, and a mesh of course. Wonder if you could attach an explosion though, well a practical one

Ok As its taking me a while to get my tut done to my liking, im gonna give you a small bit of info. First off read the art guide if you haven't already. Next you make your weapon mesh in XSI. You may whant to make a hi poly version for first person view and a slightly lower one for 3rd. Ok the fun stuff, place a Null called hp_active where you whant the hand to hold the wepon, I actuly had this null at root 0,0,0. then add one called hp_fire were the flash effect will be. I think the ordinace actuly comes from the root, but not 100% shure. Ok before you export it make shure you freeze transformers by clicking on the transform tab on the right hand tool bar, select freeze all transformers. You may have to re position your nulls, as this some times sets them to 0,0,0. Also make shure your nulls are children of the mesh.

I'll look into the meele weapon for you guys. ;)

ok... l5r, jabba made a sword for me, but the texture isn't being applied... help?

Is it a TGA? And is the name of the texture match the name in the MSH?

well, I created a gun, and the model is reversed

I tried to rotate in XSI, but it hasnt helped

I did ALL listed above - but instead of holding at the grip, he holds at the 'end' of the weapon

always 'freeze all transforms' b4 exporting

for my FWG5 pistol i didnt do a HP_Active .

I just positioned the 000 to the handle and pointed the gun down the blue X arrow.

Worked .
