Trouble with the .LVL Extractor [Solved]

So when I reformatted my computer I forgot to back up my clone assassin skin I used when I remade Vyse's Jedi Temple. I really need it now. :(

I found a .LVL Extractor on SWBF Files and I thought it would solve my problems.

It hasn't. :x

I open Command Prompt; it says

Code: Select all

C:\Documents and Settings\Zachary>
I type Desktop\extract\extract.exe zela.lvl so it looks like this:

Code: Select all

C:\Documents and Settings\Zachary>Desktop\extract.exe zela.lvl
I press Enter and get this message:

Code: Select all

Error: Can't open file: zela.lvl quitting...
(The zela.lvl file is in my extract folder by-the-way.)

Any one know how this thing works and what to do? :)

An LVL extractor? Seriously? That's like a de-munger! Wow!

try copying the zela.lvl to your desk top I believe that is where the program is looking for it.

so... you could use this to get stuff like vyse's master sword, ECT?
By "Un-Munge"ing a custom .lvl?
If you were unethical. :P

Caleb, He's using this to get the Clone Assasin. Think about it for a moment, like why he would need that, and for what map? :P

I've used this program before to figure out .req details. Its always worked for me...

I don't know if it will help, but run the program from its directory: C:\Documents and Settings\Zachary\Desktop\extract\

The extracted lua code is not plain text. You still need another step to fully decompile it. There is a program that can do it, but I think you need to change a few settings in its code then recompile it. Only then will it work with SWBF2's .lub files. Note: I have not tried this, only researched this second program.

The textures are extracted as .dds files.

If this isn't working, then you could go old-school and see if Nimlot's BF1 extractor still works.

LVL Extractor

Yeah I just tried this LVL extractor out, simply drag the .LVL file over the extract.exe and drop it then let it run it's course and the textures appear in:
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner(or whatever your folder's name is)
as .DDS files

If you just drag a .lvl file on the .exe, you will miss all the extractor's messages.

Your extract's files and zela.lvl need to be in the same folder. The command prompt must be in that folder too.

Code: Select all

C:\Documents and Settings\Zachary>Desktop\extract.exe zela.lvl
is not the same as

Code: Select all

C:\Documents and Settings\Zachary\Desktop>extract.exe zela.lvl

just drag n drop it onto the exe

The drag n drop method worked fine for me, it'll extract the files to the same folder each time, but it makes no difference to me really, I don't need it for anything.

Wierd, I get the 'cannot find lvl file' error when I drag and drop. Extract has run on every SWBF2 lvl I've given it. Sometimes it only finds unsupported sections, but when you run it from the command line you can see those messages.

I have extract version 0.0.6
