Unexpected problem

I was trying to create a large tube for the main part of a circular building, but it didn't work. I tried making a cylinder with a few base divisions and then deleting the points in the center, and it seemed to work great until i hit render preview, which made it seem like nothing happened at all.

I'd like to know how everyone else makes tubes, barrels, etc. in XSI. Gmax was easy for that, but i can't figure it out in XSI

If you are talking about making a cylinder without a top or bottom, therefore a tube, when you first get the pop up when you create it look towards the bottom of the pop up where it says close top and close bottom uncheck those and the top and bottom will be open.

If you are talking about only getting rid of some of the polies on the base, select the polies you want to delete, best to use raycast select (u) for this, then press ALT-Delete.

Oh and if you want to be able to run inside the tube don't forget to invert the polies.

Yeah that fixed the problem. The only thing else i'd like to know is how to make the walls a bit thicker, since after you click open both ends, it makes the walls a tad thin. I probably can work around that, but it's not very realistic to have a two inch wide wall for a building

About what FragMe said, unchecking "Close bottom" and "close top" works in XSI, but when you put the model in-game, it culls (aka. from the inside of the "tube," you can see out, and walk out).

@Blade
That is why I mentioned he'd have to invert the polygons.

@Silas
If you want to make a tube with a certain wall thickness you could try this, it is only one way of doing it there are a few.

Make a cylinder the size you want (keep the ends closed), then make another one that is smaller in diameter but a bit longer than the original. Select the original again then on the side menus go to Model/Modify/Poly Mesh/Boolean/Difference
when asked to select the second mesh click on the smaller longer cylinder. This will cut a hole in the first cylinder.

Freeze the first cylinder then delete the second one and you now have a tube with both insides and outsides.

i thought something like that might work, but i wasn't sure what it was that did that...thanks for all the help. i'll try it out and export it later or tommorrow and edit this post if it works well ingame.

edit: i got everything to work, except after i exported, mshex did the weird "error...mshex has to close" thing. Probably just missed a step in exporting...ill see what i can do
