its XSI, you need to reinstall it or stop running so many things while exporting cause that can sometimes make the exporter die.

This happened more than once?
See this as a 'crash to Desktop '

My XSI crashes into desktop at times, but that is mostly because I really abuse it and run it above my computer's limit + running tons of applications at once, including Photoshop et cetera..
If your computer cannot handle too much data at once, try FREEZING your models as often as possible. You cannot undo your changes after a freeze, but if you save often - and I hope you do - it really makes the application run much faster. If XSI suddenly runs very slow when you are working on your model, it is probably because you have not frozen it in a long while.
But true, on a simple object like a door, I don't understand why XSI would crash on you..
Tell us more about your problem and how many times it has occured. How many apps did you run at once? How much memory do you have allocated for XSI and is there enough room on your harddrive for it? Is your harddrive properly defragmented? I realize that you probably have looked into those issues already, I am just curious to know the background of the problem.

using Softimage XSI 5.1 Foundation Trial
export addon installed
1024mb dual DDR ram - corsair
athlon 3500+
2x36gb raptor (raid)
just windows running no other programs - no av - nothing
372mb in use
i go to the export tool = tell it where to save - it starts (GETTING MATERIALS FROM SCENE_ROOT)
then the error msg comes up that i put in the jpg

I am also using 5.1, maybe it's that version specificaly that isn't compatible with the exporter? Unlikely.

the problem is, that you have it set to Scene_Root
if we're talking about SWBF2, it shold be named DummyRoot

i know exactly whats wrong, you didnt branch select, the exporter is trying to export nothing so its crashing, i can see it in your pic, use the middle mouse button and click on dummyroot and it should say B:dummyroot in the box on the right.

I have recreated the item changed to dummyroot & right clicked on the item so i get B:dummyroot on the right & im still getting the error.
I have used the Tut that is in this forum, does anyone have another tut for SWBF2 please ?
I must be missing something somewhere

not right clicked.
use the middle-mousebutton aka Mouse 3.
rightclick will ony Tree Select, and you have to Branch Select.

A huge bump here I know but I just had the same problem and it would be very unfortunate if you would never be able to make models becouse of one little thing.
I just forgot to select the Export selected models only checkbox. this fixed it. Ofcours I don't know if you have forgot this as well or not but it is a possibillity..
