Talay: Tak Base - Update 5/10/09

Hello Gametoasters. Well this is my first map. It's based off the second level from Star Wars Dark Forces but was heavily inspired by RevanSithLord's and NullCommando's Talay: Tak Base map.

The progress of the map is I'm going to say 55%. This map will only be playable on Galactic Civil War era. The planned game modes are: Conquest, Team Death Match, and Hunt.

For the sides, which I haven't started, will feature Phase II Dark Troopers for the Empire and various soldier classes for the Alliance. So the story is, for those of you who don't know, Phase II Dark Troopers are unleashed on the Rebel base on Talay to demostrate the power of the Dark Troopers. The Rebels were attack without warning and were completely massacred.

The map is basically done, I just need to touch it up some more. I'll then do the sides, scripts, etc.

looks good maybe a little too purple but that's ok the object placement is great and detailed good work

I think my Talay: Tak Base just got beat.. Then again, I need to remake it.. Very nice work so far.

I would make everything darker, possibly change the hoth hills to be darker, and reskin the bespin buildings to be slightly darker and possibly wartorn.

Other than that, the map looks beautiful!

I agree with Yankfan, should be less purple, probably more brown. But other than that, great! :thumbs:

With all the purple it makes the mountain background look kinda odd but maybe its just the way they are.

I actualy rather like the purple. However, maybe you should change the mountains' colors a little, maybe a darker blue or a bit more purple.

Thanks for all the comments and constructive criticism, guys. :)

The only things that are actually purple are the sky and the lightning. I'm going for the Mars-look (red planet) but in this case purple. I have to admit that the mountains do look odd. I'll try using darker blue mountains.

Actually I like the purpleness, it makes the map somehow different. Perhaps a little bit darker would be better.

As for NullCommando's map, I like it, but I liked the beta more because of more variety on imp side, no SBDs and overpowered imperials (since in Dark Forces the base was wiped out pretty fast), but I cant find the beta anymore.

So I suggest you to add phase 2 as well as pahse 3 (and phase 1 if you can make it :P ) dark troopers and make them a little bit overpowered, but not very much.
And please get rid of arc casters, they dont fit into star wars IMO.

The one thing I really liked - the only thing I really liked - about the earlier "Tak Base" map was the way it was set up for the campaign mode. The ambiance was set well for it and as a result it was enjoyable. I hope you do something similar, and if you do, I would encourage making sure that there are ambient sounds (i.e. rain and thunder). That was the one thing I felt was missing before that could have made it better.

I just added the ambient sounds. Not only is there rain and thunder, but also crashing waves (kam_amb_rain). :|

As for the sides, especially the Dark Troopers, I plan on having a variety of Phase II Dark Trooper classes like in Null's Beta map. I might include the Phase I but definately not the Phase III.

Yeah, those look much better.
Perhaps you should make the lightning a little bit darker too.

It's actually not that bright in-game. Besides, the lightning matches the sky. :P

Anyway, I got the first unit done. I present the Phase II Dark Trooper:

It has an assault cannon, missile cannon, shielding, and a jetpack (not jump pack). The weapons are powerful but not over the top.

Uhh... How big is he? I just noticed the chaingun was pretty small compared to him, lol.

@Null: Looks like he scaled down the chaingun, not scaled up the darky. Looks nice, AQT! :thumbs:

Oh. OK. I just noticed something else, may or may not be fixable: He holds it with his hand at the very end of the gun, is there a way to move the gun forward? Or is it supposed to be like that?
