Yep! As far as I could tell, the only units that can get outside the walls of the city square are the dark troopers and jet troopers. Of course this is still a BETA and Schizo is planning on putting in new units, and I'm sure he'll work on other stuff too.Teancum wrote:Excellent map! I agree with Joe-B-Wan on the boundary thing. If your city is surrounded by buildings (didn't get that far) you might as well remove it.
I really thought this a great recreation of Alderaan.
One thing is for sure, the first side to capture the vehicle spawning CP is almost assured a quick victory. Especially with the incomplete bot routing paths and such!

I got around to playing today, Schizo, and I must say, it is REALLY fun to take the IFT-X onto the round platform where all the droids are guarding and just spawn kill.
I love how the victory screen turnsout looking so cool whenever I beat it. It gives what looks like a coastal view of the city. Very nice. The AI could use some work though.

The reason why the AI is screwed up is because they get confused by multiple levels, which this map has a lot of. There's the skyway, of course, and the round platform in the center of the map that the Rebels have. They just can't comprehend it in their tiny AI brains.
Really, what the bots seem to want to do is capture the skyway CPs. But since the bots aren't able to climb the walkways (trust me, I tried this over and over, but the paths just get totally screwed up) they only just walk over and stand underneath the skyway where the CP would be. I put tons of barriers, and now that the bots can't go and stand underneath the walkway, they just seem to like to stand around by their CPs. Really, there's no way to fix this. I can't do a thing for it, and that's why I've nearly given up on this map altogether. I don't like crappy AI.
I also have no clue why they don't want to use the vehicles either. Hey, maybe I'm wrong... it could just be Alderaan that's the problem... enveloping everyone who touches foot on the surface in absolute stupidity, even in a time of war.
I'm moving on to bigger and better things. I'm probably going to start learning to use XSI, so I can maybe make my own boardable ships, like Bandu did. If I can, then I'm probably going to do a space map. But only if I can make the boardable ships successfully. Unless someone else is able and willing to do it, which I highly doubt. I'm not just going to have a capital ship dome model with a crappy hangar made out of lego bricks that don't line up attatched to the bottom. I want something... good...
I don't know... I just wanna make a space map... maybe I'll just wait for BFII to come out to make it... maybe then we'll have some better AI that can dogfight a bit better. We'll see.

Well, I will say that Fred said that you can't have overlapping bot paths. That is, that you can't have the AI go along a path that will go underneath another. You might try repositioning the ramps so that you don't have any under/over issues, then re-pathing that one area.
If you're interested, I'll post my preview movie for you to add.

I already know about the bot paths not being able to overlap. And they didn't. It should've worked; I was as careful as I could possibly be not to let them overlap. But for some reason, the bots just didn't want to follow the paths and walk up the walkways, and instead just stood there at their CPs. And I mean all of them; it wasn't just a couple standing around. Every single bot just stood there. So I took out the paths leading up the walkway, and now, at least some of the bots move and fight and everything, so I suppose it's better than nothing. Bots do have a tendency to piss me off though, and I hate having to deal with them.
About the preview movie... well, to tell you the truth, I need to get a new graphics card, so my computer doesn't even show me any preview movies. It's just blank there at the selection screen. So I wouldn't be able to test it out and see how it looks. I don't even think I'll ever get around to a final version at the rate it's going anyway, so it doesn't even really matter.
Oh well... at least a tried to make this map as good as I could get it... but I guess we can't get everything we want, eh? I just hope my next map turns out better... I was thinking of a GCW space battle in "The Graveyard" (the asteroid field left behind after Alderaan was blown up by the Death Star).

Well, thanks. That makes me feel a little better to know that you guys liked it. I, personally, don't really like the outcome. It didn't meet my expectations, and I'm kind of disappointed. But whatever, as long as you guys like it...
Personally, I think of myself more of a tester than a mapper. I mostly made this map to kinda see how it would turn out. If it was any good, I'd continue on making maps. Even though I don't exactly like it all that much, I'm happy you guys like it. That kinda encourages me to go and make another, which will (hopefully) meet my expectations this time.
I much prefer flying maps anyway. That's just how I've always played Star Wars games, ever since I was a kid. I'm a big fan of the Rogue Squadron series, and flying around and blasting enemy fighters out of the sky is still fun even to this day. That's pretty much why I want to make a space map. It's not often you really get to enjoy flying and dogfighting in BF, and I'm sure all these sudden space maps being made are going to be a welcome change for the final few weeks before BFII is released and we finally get some real space battles.

I thought this map was well done! It was a massive battle with so much fighting!! You shouldn't feel bad, I haven't even figured out how to map yet (I really want to though, but it doesn't work out for me, I have many ideas of what i want to make). This is your first map, after all, and I thought it came out pretty well. Practice makes perfect.
