Just wonder if there will be Modtools for BF2 right from release. Me and others would realy like it if they don“t need to wait for months again.
I guess the current on wil only need an update ti incorporate the new things or?

By the way i hope that there will be a chance the update current custom maps to make them BF2 compatible.

And last i realy realy hope that in the meantime Softimage release the XSI modtools addon.

I suppose that this thread is particularly intended to psych0fred... Nevertheless, can I give you my own opinion ?

I know that current mod tools wont work, current custom maps will require some "additional modifying" and may/still may not function in swbf2.Gametoast made mod tools will not work with swbf2..well until me and nimlot and others do our magic. :) remember when there were no mod tools :

Yeah, what I'm interested more in finding out though is if custom maps for bf will work. Then technically we could keep making maps with the old tools, and all those uber maps made before won't go to waste.

At the beginning of SWBF's modding, we could only use hex-editing to change textures or values in order to enhance units' health, etc...
In fact, I've discovered that hex-edition allow you to work as well as with SWBF Mod Tools.

Just wonder if there are any news about modtools for SWBF2? This might be interesting for those guys planning to buy XSI for SWBF modding.
Noone wants to waste that much money.

Well, is Swbf2 considered and expansion pack? Could we just take our old maps and update them for swbf2?

SWBF2 questions on psychOfred's site said:

Q. Will there be mod tools for SWBF II (and mapping tools)?

A. Unknown. We do everything by hand and the game has only become more complex so tools would require a lot of work to create something that is usable by people who don't work here. We didn't do it for ourselves, so I don't know if we will do it for the consumers.

to me that speaks volumes, I think and from what I've seen of SWBF2 it looks way more complicated in terms of gameplay, with mission objectives and all that sort of thing and so modding I assume although possible maybe or rather probably, will be significantly more difficult. XSI & MSH I assume still for objects which can currently be made and modded, terrain is terrain I guess so maybe huge changes wouldn't need to be made in zeroeditor to accomodate this, (although space battles etc.. may cause probs). I think there are too many unknowns at mo (so I am assuming alot). I assume that improved gameplay may mean current maps won't work or will need to be upgraded to run on SWBF2 as I doubt it'd be backward compatible, but who knows, when it come to SWBF2 maybe I need to "think outside the box" (AAAAARRRRGGGGHHH I am beinging to really hate that phrase!)

Agreed. SWBF2 modding (if there is any) will most likely be much more difficult than it was for the first game. It's a shame too, because of all the potential. However, difficult isn't the same as impossible.

Yep and also on fred's forum he mentioned that objects etc... would be able to be imported from SWBF2 into SWBF1 "Even if you can't mod the second game you can at least extract objects and put them in BF1". Sounds like the way to go, but who knows? if we're unable to or not provided with mod tools for SWBF2 then I'm sure many of us will continue to mod bigger and better maps for SWBF1. Even if we will eventually be able to mod for SWBF2 there's bound to be a long transition time for tools, upgrades for zeroeditor or BFBuilder or maybe even a new pandemic plugin for XSI which we'll then have to wait ages for... However the only things I can see that may not work with SWBF2 are luas, req's and odf's if they've changed them. I'm sure we're bound to be able to use zeroeditor in some capacity for worlds and XSI/msh for objects... unless they really have totally changed everything. Guess we've got another 121 days to wait :(

If they simply include the original SWBF engine in the game, and whenever an SWBF1 map was detected, it would launch it from that executable. . .I think this is very doable, without taking up too much space. . .

mod maps for swbf 1 wont really be worth it in a way......cos every1 will be playin swbf2. modding loses its significance if no-ones gonna download . :(

People will still want new maps, playing a new one is far better than playing the same old one (that you've mastered) over and over again. That's why there will be (and already is) a great demand for SWBF2 to be moddable, however if it's not easily moddable (which is the impression I'm getting)I think people will continue to make maps for SWBF1, be it totally new maps or making the maps from SWBF2 onto SWBF1... loads of possibilities. SWBF1 only becomes obsolete if modding for SWBF2 is just as easy, and if it really is just as easy then you can continue to make maps for SWBF2

dont say that or we'll never get modtools for swbf2 ;)

I dont mind if the modtools for bf2 are harder ......itl mean only the people really wanting to mod will do it and whilst we may get less quantity we'l get more quality
