The FAQ is GONE

You think you can fix this Guru? (omg, omg, omg )

It's there now, not sure what happened.

It's there, but when you click on it, it says the requested topic does not exist.

The first post of the Asset links topic in the Released Assets forum containing all of the links to assets has been wiped out.
The Tutorial thread in the XSI forum also does not exist when you click on it, same as the FAQ/Everything You Need thread.
The site rules have also been wiped out.
Can't upload attachments in a PM.
Search function still acts the same as before for me.

In the future, a 24 hour notice of this site's shutdown for updating would be nice if possible, it would allow us to make a back up of the more important topics that contain a ton of info just incase something like this happens and that topic's info can't be recovered after updating.

I indeed noticed that A LOT of first posts are missing, like in my Easter topic, and the assets link topic..

Gosh.... it feels so...desolate.

This is how I feel. It feels just so...weird.

Dont panic, those posts arent gone. I made a backup of everything during my changes. Let the site run a few days. I wiped the cache and its rebuilding. I will check out the topics with lost posts and see what the forum update did to the posts/data.

*wipes brow of sweat and sighs a great sigh of relief*
Yay! Now at least the guru part is fixed.

Yes, if it doesn't fix itself, how long is the wait going to be until we decide that it isn't fixing itself?

to sum things up :

built a new server, shipped out, had it online prepared for a new customer to slam it, put gt on it, gt rocked on it but again we just put gametoast where we can to keep it alive, the deal with customer didnt work out, paying LOTS of money for un-used server, no donations could ever = what i was paying on it. Saw the bill, noticed i was about to be rebilled, had 7 hours, didnt have time to post to anyone about move, grabbed files, barely in the nick of time made a backup of mysql (the forum data) and server was disconnected and re-sent back to me. I have the data here and have been sorting through what is missing, it looks like the real issue is this servers mysql/php versions are having conflicts so some posts are THERE but not showing.

We are on a totally different server, hence the "let me know if any features arent working, again" There was a huge chance of no gt for a bit but i saved it and this is the end result, gt , up running and no login issue, not slow just some posts including the rules and everything important having huge chunks missing.

Im trying to see what can be done. Spare time slim. Gt needs a huge overhall anyways. huge database and 60% of it is archived , unused and old data/news/silly topics from 5 years. some of the posts on here are from people who are now marrried, dead, turned into spys and so forth so we do need major cleanup/organizing. In truth we need a new game and new mods to make this place hop like it used to, it still rocks but we need a new star wars game to really get things rolling. I myself havent modding anything but pirates of the caribbean online and fate in the past few years. snore.

If you can help out , find all the topics that REALLLLLY need to be fixed, ie. not maps but RULES, teans mappacks stuff, things of TOP needed I can see what needs to be fixed, ill find the code and hand add it back to the database. Time and organizing is all thats needed.

If you have new suggestions for gt, please drop them in pm to me. Add postnuke, new games, a chatroom, toss whole areas that suxxor, etc... let me know. Its def. spring cleaning time!

We arent closing, or even considering things close to that..just really need to clean up, find out what we are , and what we are offering and offer it. freshly.

Maybe we should re-write some tuts.. Just fresh, etc.. Most tut's are well known now by some users..

As new game; i say wait till SWBFIII, which will costs our modding-skills, since i think it will be completely different then 1 and 2, noticing it's not pandemic's.. We've had this discussion before though..

Maybe we could organise and 'mark' maps and modes, giving them 1 till 10, and displaying the best on the main page, or even make the best capable of being googled..

Just some suggestion from a GT lover, that's it..

I disagree, those tuts were some of the best I've seen, and it'd be a shame to lose any of them.

I say we can make a Crysis modding forum, that'd bring back some old members, like OGEB, Bandu, Majin, etc.
and bring some new members too.
Although it may actually increase the traffic a bit too much, since Crysis is so popular.

I like MandeRek's idea of making the best maps and mods google-able (key words: battlefront 2, maps, mods, etc.)

But my main problem right now is the FAQ not being here, which really kills me

I agree with Taivyx. Crysis is an awesome game with a very big modding community. I think it would definitely bring some more "business" to GT. (At least until SWBF3 comes out ) I would love to get into Crysis modding myself, if I had the time (which is why I stopped modding SWBF2). Maybe after my AP Exams/during the summer.

Don't rewrite the tuts they make perfect sense. It is just time consuming.

Yea a Crysis forum would be excellent, and i would really hope for a CoD4 modding forum, i know we have other games modding but if we generate enough interest for cod 4 and Crysis we could have another forum for them 2?

If possible, guru, can you access the thread, copy it's contents, and repost it?

Also, if any of the tuts in there have their first post missing, then can you also re-access those and re-post them?

Yeah it's a known issue. Let's all pray for Guru, as that's about the only thing we can do to help besides waiting patiently.
