JKA Model Conversion

Having noticed the Reytha map, and its amazing models, I realized: we need to get some decent weapon models publicly available. My plan: JKA models. Reytha uses a few. I noticed a pretty big JKA mod-conversion sort of thing, I can't remember the name now. Still, there's lots of good models on Filefront.
3ds Max can convert from GLM (the JKA format) to XSI, so all we'd need to do is convert and add hardpoints, then we've got ourselves a pretty decent model. Some really good ones:
The DC-15A by Pahricida:
http://jediknight2.filefront.com/file/B ... C15A;72979
The EE-3 (Boba's rifle), also by Pahricida:
http://jediknight2.filefront.com/file/B ... bine;46437
Why am I not doing this myself, you ask? Good question. I guess it's because I don't know anything about XSI. Still, this is worth doing. It's for the public good.
If you do convert a model, please ask the creator for permission first, and credit them, of course.

Are you talking actual shipped JKA models? Don't quote me on it, but I believe by the JKA EULA that would be illegal.
Now if you're talking community made models, that would be legal and awesome.

Community models, of course. 100% legal.

If you're going to convert models made by anyone, you should always ask for permission first.

Yes, of course. I don't plan to be the one converting them, of course - I'm just setting this in motion - but I'll mention it on the 1st post.

Yeah. That DC-15 is a model I suggested... because frankly... I'm trying not to puke at the shipped model that came with the game. The default looks too... bulky..and... a little bit out of proportion. It's like it's on steroids or something, I dunno.
But anyway... great topic ARC.

Here's a list of gunmodels we don't have yet/are unreleased/are better than the current one.
I didn't take them all since some were just reskins, others were ugly, or not suiting (like a supersoaker

)
Blastech DC-15A
DE-10 Blaster Pistol
MiB Weapons
love these but nvm
Fett's Carbine
Jango's pistol,and another one
Zam's Sniper Rifle
I'd say we need more playermodels to be converted though

JK514, why don't you, or Verites, convert some models that were made by modders for JKA or JK

I'm glad that this was setup, because yesterday I was halfway through writing a new topic on this board about exactly
how to import models from Jedi Academy when IE crashed.
So how exactly does one go about doing this? Here's what I've gathered so far:
1) Obtain permission (duh)
2) Download the file, and change the .pk3 extension to a .zip
3) I then got a bunch of different models, textures and effects (this was when I downloaded Pahricida's DC-15A).
After that I have no idea what to do. The models are in MD3 format (I think, can't remember that well) which can't be put into XSI (or 3Ds Max as far as I can tell, I downloaded the trial but they still won't open).
Stumped, I opened the MD3 files in the 3D Object Converter, but they had no texture and half of the weapon was missing (my theory here is that I opened the first person view of the weapon, which doesn't need to be full). After that I'm fully stuck. I could import the files into XSI by saving the files as Wavefront OBJ, but what good would that do if the texture is missing and only half the weapon is there?
So, the big question is, how do you convert Jedi Academy models to Battlefront II? Thanks! (I'm praying that this is legal, but considering Lando Calrissian [an in-game model] and Durge [a mod] are both in the Battlefront Conversion pack, I'll assume that it is.)

@Emperor: I like the DE-10 and the Zam rifle. Fett's carbine... err... not so great. Pahricida's one is better.
@Rekubot: Hmm... I was under the impression that they're GLMs, which 3ds Max
can open. With a plugin, I believe. If they are MD3s, then this may help:

In the MB2 mod theres LOTS of new weapons/units, if we'd contact them (perhaps through their site) maybe we'd have acces to a great number of very goodlooking models to convert. If they gave permission it'd be perfect imo

Ah yes... MB2 was what I was thinking of. That would be very good.
@JK514: They're not publicly available, though, and that's the goal of this. As for the carbine - I prefer OOM-9's, personally...

Umm... JK, you calling that DC-15 rubbish? If so, that is FAR away from rubbish. That's a freakin masterpiece.
And, as Far as MB2 goes, some of the people over there are kinda...harsh and would probably go 'Booo nooooo BF2 sucks.... boooo nooo' Actually that's more of a stupidity than harsh.

Then again I haven't been over there in a while, so it probably changed. lol I'm sure they'll have no problem with you guys trying this out actually.

If we play it the "your models are really great and we'd love to use them for SWBF2, and you guys will get all the credit and publicity you deserve" kind of way, I'd think they'd give us permission... Then again I don't know those people.
We won't know without trying

Shall I post a topic in their forum, or email them?
