I apologize both for the triple post and bumping an over-30-day-old-topic, but we've been without some solid news for this game for some time.
A CG trailer was released some time ago and can be viewed here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtFUamdlMwQ
In addition to this, a demo for this game was released on PSN on October 22nd. It showcased a complete game of conquest on the planet Tatooine with support of the Clone War and Galactic Civil War eras.
The demo was quite good in my opinion, with the battles changing each time I played it. Troops would land in transport ships to aid in the ground battle, enemy forces would take down your frigate's shields and then board it, many things were happening all at once.
The gameplay itself is indeed improved over Renegade Squadron, but not by much. The heroes as well could've used some polish as they felt a bit restricting like the ones in RS. The space combat was fun, with wingmen assisting you from time to time, but the dogfighting took place from so far away that it was like shooting specks in the distance.
All in all, it was fun and I enjoyed playing it. Some things were good, some not so much, but I have to say, it is an improvement over Renegade Squadron, but I can't say I enjoyed playing it more than Battlefront II.

That looks pretty intense, but I would actually like to see some real gameplay.

is it me, or do the people who always do these videos appear to suck at games?

Hahah, not everyone's good at video games. I'm not too good at PSP gaming myself.

That CG trailer was pretty sick for being so short. I wish it was longer. And now I want a PSP
Too bad the stormies got slaughtered. And what where those ships taking off? Looked like Pirates from Empire at War. Haha there should be a Zann Consortium side in the nex Battlefront.

I noticed in the CG trailer that the 2 stormtroopers on the right are carrying what appear to be DC-15S carbines, and the one on the left seems to have a DC-15A rifle. Am I correct?

It's a CG trailer, meant to emphasis the fact that the ground and space combat are connected. I don't think the rifles necessarily reflect what will end up in the game. Also, I found it hilarious they had to put "not actual gameplay footage" on the bottom, as if anyone who knows what a PSP is would make the mistake of thinking it was...

In one demo video recently uploaded (sorry, lost it

) it showed what happens once you get into the hanger. You fight your way through a few enemies, and then you're told something awesome.
"Take out the reactor to destroy the capitol ship"
You shoot the core, it breaks, and then you have about 60 seconds to evacuate the ship, or blow up with it. This is like, the one thing I wanted to see in BFII, and I'm so glad it's in.
Oh, and looking at the story and levels, there's no doubt in my mind that this was once BFIII. It's pretty much the same game, just on the PSP.

I actually thought it was actual gameplay until I saw that notice...
About the rifles, I didn't mean to imply that stormtroopers may potentially use them as in-game weapons, it was just an observation about the trailer...sorry.
I have to admit, I'm actually looking forward to the release of this game...

No need to be sorry, it
was an astute observation. I think I'll wait a few months (or for the price to go down) before getting this, like I did with Renegade Squadron, to wait and see what all the reviews post-release say about it. I can get other things (like TFU:SE for PC!!) for Christmas.

You might as well just get this early, Force Unleashed was fun the first time around, but I haven't wanted to touch that game with a stick since the Jedi Temple level came out last year.
Physics were really screwed up at times, skybox backgrounds were on par with BFII's (visibly 2D), and there's almost zero replayability. Oh, and there's a chance the room you're going into won't load or will un-load once you go a few feet into it. It's happened at least 12 times to me.

that's on the whatever system you have (assuming 360?), but then again the PC version is just a port basically, so some of those problems might reoccur.

If you didn't like renegade squadron's controls, this game uses them. Just letting you know

I thought it was generally known that this was the PSP derivative of BF3

What did you think of the whole space-interior-surface combat thing? Did the dynamic work out ok?

Also, two more specific concerns, the whole escape pod thing (which ties into train's question) and the melee. In the webdoc, there was a short clip of Lando smacking Vader with his blaster, is this a button you press, or does it automatically do that close quarters?

What do you want to know specifically about the transitions/escape pods?
The melee is automatically executed when the enemy gets too close.

I guess, just, once you destroy the enemy ship, how long do you have to get into a pod, and do you just, like, fall down to the planet and get out?

I'm excited to try the DS version. I think an isometric shooter would work well for SWBF on the DS. I'm definitely glad they didn't just try to dumb down the PSP version.
