Some programs exist to extract certain files, like *.DDS or *.X files. (In fact, they're compiled *.TGA and *.MSH files)
But only hex-editing can help you to extract more files. For example, it can extract movies shown in SWBF...
Indeed, this method is really hard to use, because you must know the structure of each kind of files ! (*.WAV, *.TGA, *.BIK and all others)
And moreover, the success is not guaranteed...
