Exporting to .emdl with Softimage Mod Tool 7.5? [Solved]

I don't know how descriptive I can be here, I'm using XSI 7.5, and whenever I go File>>Export>>Model the option is always greyed out, where you can mouse over it but not click on it. I can import .emdl files, but I can't export them.

Please help, I couldn't find anything like this anywhere.

Its possible that .emdl export is disabled in the ModTool. You could use .obj or .xsi if you want to transfer files to another 3D package.

I'm trying to export animations. Obj won't work. I don't think .xsi will either. Does anyone else with the mod tool have this problem? Or is it just me. :?

The dotXSI file type works, use the older 3.x exporter and not the newer crosswalk. I do this to get characters and animations into Jedi Academy. Good thing too about dotXSI 3.x is that just about everything reads it, even milkshape3d.

When in doubt just Google it!

COLLADA (*.dae) and FilmBoX (*.fbx) support animations also, these are included in the Crosswalk install.
  • File>Crosswalk>Export (for .xsi 5.0/6.0 and .dae 1.4.1)
    File>Crosswalk>Export FBX (for .fbx)
The dotXSI export(format versions 3.0, 3.5 and 3.6) that comes with the application can be found through:
  • File>Export>dotXSI
Though there really is no need to use those old format versions since the newer ones work just as well unless you just don't want to install Crosswalk. If you are constantly moving assets from one app to another then you'll want Crosswalk anyway.
