GT Game- Lets do this!- Getting Ideas

This may sound crazy, and I have presented this idea to some people, but how would you like to make a game?

GT- THIS GUY IS CRAZY!!!!

Grev- BUT WAIT! I have an idea!

Why you may want to try this-
-Wouldn't it look so great to have made an online game played by # people in a resume or something?
-Who wouldn't want to make a game?
-It may be challenging, but its worth it.
-It just sounds good!

Now, Im not sure this is even possible, so call me crazy but Im just not that well informed. If its not possible tell me, but heres what I think.

There are several people here who could make a game launcher, and making the maps can be reasonably fun!
Lots of people here make models and animate.
With all GT's combined talents, why not?

Any ideas? Hopes, plans?

If Its not possible to make this, tell me, but its an idea....

EDIT: I know this may sound like it interferes with the EULA (Or whatever its called) but dont be alarmed. We have great scripters, and putting this together with some of the talents of GT wouldn't be impossible...

You've got some sort of magic game engine generator?

Maybe? So far, this is gonna be a mod, but this may spring up to something else when people who can finally look at it and go, hey, I can do this!

lol.. Anyone who wants to try it and help out, I know maver wields script like a weapon, but hes not helping yet, soo, any volunteers?

This may seem crazy, but Im sure someone in the staff, who was newly elected, who made the freecam (:D) may know how to launch the game..

I think you underestimate what making a game engine entails. I guarantee no one on this site would, at this point, have enough in the way of skill to even start to design one - not to mention they're made by teams of programmers, and not just one programmer. 99% of mods made at all use a preexisting engine of some sort.

Also, you're suggesting a project with no direction or idea at all.

Sceptism, great sceptism I see in this one....

Actually, my idea was something along the lines of what Tiavyx and I are doing right now. And I said, I dont know much, so It may be impossible. So it is.

I seriously like the idea. It could be like a Hang-around game where you can talk to different people and do little side quests and all kinds of stuff.

If anyone plays Uru, I'm leaning towards that kinda game since it is going to be shut down...

Guys, i talked to Zerted, and he said if everything but the engine was changed, it would be totally legal! So, I want to start this as soon as I can. I need modelers, everyone who has any gaming knwoledge!

Maver, It would be great if you could help!

Also, if I make the game swbf2 mods with all new models, and characters, is that legal? Like its made in ze, and built for swbf2, but its all different other than that, is that fine?

And I mean more of a shooter game, like swbf2, just more modern, like cod4 and stuff.. More info in the near future.... Or maybe even a stick figure shooter! :D

Reading the above posts, this looks like it could be the next Tremulous.

Tremulous was a normal mod for Quake III, but after some time, it gained popularity, and was made a standalone free game using the Quake III engine, fully legal.
T R E M U L O U S

You have my full support, I'm not much of a modeller, animator or anything, but I have a small tad of experience in skinning(READ: Small, as in only for SWBFII skins), and I also made the Weird Sides mod, it was heavily unbalanced, and when I decided to re-start it and make a new version, my PC had a total blackout after a download of an apparent virus, and my PC would give me Blue screen of death when booting, so when we reinstalled everything, the mod progress was -ofcourse- lost.
The point in what I said, is I'm a bit unexperienced in it, but I could be of assistance if you're just looking for standard skins, and maybe a bit of .ODF'ing(if that's even a word =p), I can help a little bit.

I've always wanted to get a little bit more known name over the internet, and this seems like a good shot if it gets enough helpers, so I'm 100% for it, and I hope it's a possibility.

Um, as you know, I'm doing a similar thing, just..... keeping it to myself now.
But if you want to do a rival project, then sure.

Grev,

Designing a game takes A LOT of work. Shadowlan Technologies Incorporated has been designing an MMO for over 7 months now and we recently decided to scrap the old design. That's just the design phase. ShadowHawk who is my partner was putting together some numbers and it'd take atleast a year with only me programming to get out a playable alpha version.

I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm just saying it's gonna be hard with little to no experienced programmers here who have real life experience.

As far as making a game launcher, that is an ENTIRELY different project in it's self. A lot of companies begin to make there amazing engine for the game but then get so caught up in that - that they just license off the engine.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Being a mod really is not going to cut it so easily. I remember a couple years back when someone tried to make a SWBF1 party map which at the time was really cool and a lot more reasonable then what you're trying to do.

I mean you have to code in NPC's and Monsters that have automatic respawns and somehow you have to be able to modify SWBF2 to make it so that all of the damage dealing in fighting and even in trades is done on the server side.

What about accounts? How are you going to manage that? You have to have a database in order to store the accounts and all the items...

Basically making a mod for SWBF2 that big isn't going to work because you can't change everything that you'd need to change....

Not trying to shoot the idea down, but you're going to have to code it from scratch. So I'm not sure how many people other than myself have enough experience in any language of programming to code something this big. And even for me being the only coder on ShadowLAN Technologies's project it's a huge undertaking.

I seriously think it should be more a homely game where there is no fighting. It would be much easier to program. (right?)

I think we all know that it is going to take a long time, but imagine how popular we'd become! It could be THE GT game!

I know there isn't that experienced programmers here, but the non-experienced ones could learn and then we would have an incredible amount of really good maps/mods for BF2 after the project is complete.

So call ME crazy, but I totally think we can EVENTUALLY make a worthwile game.

I just dled the FPSCreator Demo off the site rancor recomended, and I will take a look. This is off to a pretty good start, and I hope this gains as much speed as Tremulous. Tai, I would love to help you with your project, so in no means is this a competition..

EDIT
Ok, making a fps map wont be good, because I looked at the fps creator thing, and it was terrible, or at least to me. So, Im gonna look for some side scrolly thingy that will include gt people in it. THis is just a brainstorm...
