Getting fonts ingame and other things

I have these new fonts Im trying to get in game. I replaced the default ones with the new in the fonts folder and I munged with COMMON selected, the fonts folder is in the common folder so it sounded right, but I also checked localize and shell just in case. When I replaced the default common.lvl file with the new one the game won't work properly, once the opening logos are gone, it tells me to press start to continue and Im not able to do anything (nothing else to click on, just a blank screen.)
Does anyone know how to fix this? What am I doing wrong?

Second question: Where is the tga for the remotedroid the officers use? I can find the probe droid (from epV) and the dropturret but not the remote droid.

Thirdly: Is it doable to hex edit the dark trooper to use the stormtroopers head instead? I heard it is possible but it seems difficult. When I opened the msh in xvi32 there are only seemingly random numbers and symbols.

I can't find the remote droid TGA, either, been looking recently, but anyway... Hexediting the head off one model and onto another, while I'm 99% positive is possible, it would be a very involved process, and I think doing it via XSI would be easier.

I see. It seems I really gotta get a copy of XSI. Pretty much everything Im looking to do involves it somehow. What version should I get? I can't afford paying.

Softimage XSI Modtools 6.0

It's free and has the latest features, it can't export to .msh, but there are a fair number of people here who have the full version, and can export for you.
