I know how to make textures. I do not know how to apply them to complex objects in a unique way.(besides selecting unique uv's)
How would I set up my texture in a way that applies to this pic?:
Hidden/Spoiler:

All of the little boxes and things are polygons that are on my mesh. it is very confusing to try and setup lots of individual ones on each box that line up with one another.

(Ignore the foliage, it is just a random pic to get the texture editor to show the object.)

Well, I use Blender for my modeling and UVing, so it's set up a bit different of course, but there should be, first of all, options for different default projections to begin with, so first, use the one that gets you closest to your desired end result. After that, unfortunately, it is a matter of mapping things precisely how you want them, vertex by vertex, face by face. It's a bit of a work of art, really. Something that helps, though, is...well, with Blender it works this way anyway, not sure about Softimage; you can select only certain faces on your model in the 3D view, and then only those faces will show up in the UV mapping view, making your task slightly less confusing and complicated.
