Need some ideas: Jedi deflecting shots

Hey guys, I've spent two days having a lot of fun with modding the units, but I'm ready to do something more... uhmm... unique then giving jet troopers a turret cannon (although that was fun).

Now that jedi's are killable, I want to give them some sort of defense. Preferabbly like in the movies where they can deflect laser blasts or something. I've tried giving them the droideka shields to see how that worked. it worked fine as shields, but no matter where I put it, it would activate and deactivate when I use other weapons what have the same mouse button.

So I'm kinda at a loss. If anyone can give me some advice to either fix the shield so that it doesn't turn on with other weapons or another way of giving jedi's some defense, it would help a lot. Any advice/ideas/insight on how to approach this would help. Thanks.

P.S. Never give 50+ wookies in the same room light sabers and the force....

lol - ok

I'm working on a new Jedi Unit I create from scratch, and I THINK I found a way to deflect the lasershots

if you take a look at the gamorrean and the gamorrean axe .odf's - the last line - is CanDeflect = "0"

IF you change the 0 to 1, the weapon SHOULD be able to deflect something  I havent tried it myself - yet  - but it should be enough to add that line into your weapon(s) :P

C ya - and tell me what it ended like

It is very helpful, Qdin... I thought to make Droideka shield able to reflect shots...

I know :P

so when I 'discovered' this little secret, I revealed it to MajinRevan, who agreed with me, that it MIGHT be the way to deflect lasers again :P

and btw, I held this a secret - so be happy I told y'a (I was actually first gonan reveal it later)

C ya - and please tell us if it REALLY works as it should

As for the droideka shield: It's better as a secondary weapon so if you have a gun or melee weapon you can still fight, like how the Droideka is set up. If the weapons you're trying to use are in the secondary weapon slots, you shouldn't have to use the, too often where the deactivation of the shield would be a problem.

it.... WORKS!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I ran across the "deflectsound" command in the jedi's but I never thought it worked!!! Except... I wonder what it takes to kill a jedi now. >.< Anyways, thank you so much!!! XD

P.S. Yes, the deflected shots can kill other units.

P.P.S. O.O I feel honored for you endowing this secret to us. m(_ _)m I shall use it wisely. When I get the map made, I'll upload it here. Believe it or not, my boss suggested this map be made.

Jedi are easily made killable. If you lower their health and heal, one blessed thermal detonator should put them in a shallow grave.

That's true, but here's my situation.

I didn't see Episode 2, but there's a point where a lot of the jedi's are lured to a bowl like place where they're ambushed by droidekas.

So if I was to replicate that, the jedi's have to have sabers (obviously) but they should have as well, some defense. And driodeka's (2 or 3) should be able to overwhelm a jedi (that's why jedi's are afraid of droideka's right?).

Given that droidekas have no explosives (as I'm typing, I'm wondering if I should give them explosives...) but jedi's can deflect about 100 shots without blinking >.<, how do I give the droidekas a chance of winning?

Anyways, that's something I should figure out by myself, I shouldn't ask for too much help otherwise it won't be something that I made. >.<

Here's my proof of concept so far:

As you can see, there are way more shots than a jedi *should* be able to deflect. But note the full health. >.<

I never thought I'd say this but... must... kill... jedi... :p

P.S. With the lightsaber out, you take no damage no matter what you do *except* when you used another weapon like the force. Hmm... maybe I should give jedi's 2 light sabers. One to block and one to attack with...

(Taken a while back)

Lightsabers are nasty to try and get through. What did you set delfect to? I would guess, 1, try 0.5?

Tell me if it works since I'm too lazy to test it myself. XD

I didn't get it to work. When I set it to anything below 1 for candeflect, it doesn't deflect at all. Unfortunately, the value is an int value. I died against 4 droidekas.

Face, how did you get it to work then?
I may try it...

i have a suggestion.
if its possible, make the deflect a secondairy weapon with an engery bar.

I was thinking about that, but I'm having trouble making the lightsaber take damage or be time limited. The CanDeflect option seems to be all-godly powerful (which might explain why they took it out) but there's got to be someway (paces back and forth, wearing a hole into the ground). If I come up with anything, I'll post it.

Hmm, well why not make a lightsaber with the CanDeflect, and one without. That way you just set the CanDeflect to secondary and make it generate heat the longer you hold it. Hopefully that helps, not sure if it was already mentioned.
