Windows8 Munge Problem?
Alright. Well I was working on a wee conquest map to test out on Windows8. I had done one a while ago on a friends W8 Laptop, but it did not work. I thought the problem would have been a local issue, not from the OS. So I get a new desktop (Windows8) and I get cracking again at modding. Everything is smooth. Now I munge it, munge says it works but then *gasp*, it did not work. So in the game, instead of it saying: Kashyyyk: Kachiro, is has the KKV%__% or whatever. I go to look in my gamedata/addon folder, and it is not there. *PLEASE NOTE* On windows 8, I have previously had problems with extracting stuff (mainly with 7zip) when the file would not appear to be in a folder if directly extracted to it. Instead, to view this file, you would have to go to 7zip and browse the folder which it says it is in, then find it there. This was insane to find out, and gave me headaches trying to uninstall v1.3, maps, etc. So I thought "Hey, maybe the Munge works like that!" And funny enough, it did. So I go to the location, find the file, and bingo! But this is yet another problem. I tried to move the file out to someplace like the Desktop (where I normally extract the folders to, because they are not "invisible" on the desktop), but I get an error saying the file is not there. So I am sorry if this was confusing. So I think it may be modding does not work on W8, but anyone else with W8, this is the right thread.

I have Windows 8 and VisualMunge works fine for me. If your munge.bats are creating files at the wrong location, then munging is "working," it's just not directed to the right place. You may try using the munge fix linked to in the "Everything you need" thread. You also want to make sure that you're directing your created files to folders with appropriate permissions settings (it's hard to tell what might be happening without knowing the drive/directory structure of your PC).

Give the mungefix a shot. I had issues yesterday and the mungefix took care of almost everything... either way, it fixed munging, so you can definitely munge on Windows 8, even if you can't open ZE

Edit: So I added the munge fixer thingy mcbobber, now do I have to make a new world? Does this mean I will need to make my map over from scratch?

You can do one of two things, but the simplest is probably to just make a new world. Neither of the two means that you have to redo anything.
1) Copy all the munge .bats into the appropriate parts of your modID subfolder (copied from the main data folder that you just put them in)
2) Make a new world. Drop your old world folder into the new world's folder. If you want your new world to use the same modID as your old one, drag your old world's modID folder out of the BF2_Modtools folder first.

Alright. Thank you so much. By the way, you have no idea how much of an honor it is to work with Mav.
Uhoh.
So I did that, did this, yada yada, so now I am at the point where I have already made new world, etc. I munge it, it gets stuck, I cancel it, then try re munging, does not work. So I assumed that that was because I cancelled it. So I whip up a new map, munge it, and it appears in my addon again, but it is %MAP% or whatever. I run it, and boom: "FATAL. Could not open mission.lvl"

Does the map show up in your addon folder? Check inside and see if all the .lvl files are in there as well..Also, see if they're in your data_#$%/LVL folder (I think thats the directory?) If there's a mission.lvl file there larger than ~1kb, your problem lies in copying the files into your BF2 directory. If they're tiny, its the munge's fault...
