GameStop -- the worst store in gaming history.

Seriously, if you shop there, stop. I'll give you a quick example:

Xbox 360 (used)

Gamestop: 179.99.
**NOT quality tested (if it doesn't work, you have to bring it back. They don't test it)
**A hard drive is NOT included. A 20gb is 59.99.
GRAND TOTAL (for a DLC capable 360): 239.98

GameCrazy (attached to most Hollywood Videos): 179.99
**Quality tested. When you walk out of the store you know it works
**20 gb hard drive is included
**90 day warranty, with an additional year for 30.00
GRAND TOTAL (w/20gb hard drive AND 1 year warranty): 209.99

So I'm spending 30 dollars less, getting a 20gb hard drive, a 1 year warranty, and don't have to deal with the pushy idiots at GameStop.

I don't know who has/hasn't seen this, but an ex-GameStop employee make a 9 part youtube video about all the reasons why GameStop sucks. And having been to them many, many, MANY times I can vouch for everything he says (at least what has happened to me). Feel free to watch it for proof, but he's a little crude once and awhile, so be warned.

CLICK ME

Anyways, if you have GameStop sucks stories, share em. I've got more, but I don't want to hog the topic.

Oh, and again.... if you shop there, find a new place. Take it from someone who's "been around the gaming block" -- they aren't a good store. Even if you have to get you stuff at Target and have to go to some hole-in-the-wall shop for used games, you'll be happier.

Gamestop is so lame there's a halo machinima about it. :|
I've been in one and seen old sports games for $30 or so, while in the background I'm hearing the cashier tell someone selling an old sports game that he can only offer like 5 bucks for it because they lose 80 to 90% of their value once the new one is released.

I happen to like it and will continue to shop there.

I don't buy used consoles/games, a practice which I find foolish in the days of the disc, and everyone's always giving me giftcards for it anyway, so that's like $25-$50 off.

Yah, I'd never buy a console there. So one of my friends went there a lot. So he bought a sweet game. It said it was new and everything, so he gets it. He takes it home and takes it out of the case. It's all scratched up, and it doesn't work. It was NOT by any means new. And so he tried to take it back, and they wouldn't accept it because it was in too bad shape. What the heck..? They'll accept a broken PS2 but not a freakin' scratched up conned game?

The video itself was hilarious, although I can't say I'm surprised at some of what he said. I've worked in sales in niche stores before, and it's sometimes scary to think through what "corporate" will tell the employees to do.

Of course, the human element can't be ignored. While there are definitely better deals to be found at some places, I've had good customer service at a local Gamestop - I got a mall giftcard and spent it on a PC game (BF2142), which I found out didn't work on my laptop. It had been opened and used and registered with the CD-key. I called up the store I'd picked it up from, explained the situation (to be fair I'd done a lot of research on the issue and was able to present it pretty well), and the manager let me bring it in and trade it for a different PC game of equal or lesser value. Which, all things considered, was a pretty good deal.

Nice managers aside, though, it's definitely a wise choice in any circumstance to shop around.

Same with me in fact its the ONLY game store in my area, I go in there and look at the games, etc but rarely buy something. Mostly I go in there to play the games :P If I wanna buy a game I usually buy it at WalMart. GameStop had SWBF2 for PS2 used for $18 and WalMart's were new for $20 and my brother got GameStop's for $18 and later found out the Disc had a million scratches on it and every now and than the music gets messed up but he never returned it. GameStop here has pretty good customer service and employs. The thing about purchasing games at WalMart is they don't let you return/exchange games. I bought KotOR II only to find out, like Mav, it didn't work on my Laptop than after returning it to WalMart all they did was give me a new one and said they won't let you exchange open games so I gave the game to my brother for Christmas. BTW the video is no longer available

Yeah, I loooove Game Crazy. They let you test out ANY game in the store, they aren't pushy, they have better prices, PLUS I can go rent a movie too without leaving the store. :D

And I didn't mean to sound like GameStop employees suck. The manager at my local GS is actually really cool. It's the policies and practices of the company I hate.

Since Grev says I complain too much...

I LOVE GAME CRAZY AND THEIR UBER-WONDERFUL SERVICE

... oh, and I love bunnies too.

Game Crazy is usually in the same building as Hollywood Video. If you have a Hollywood Video you probably have Game Crazy too, but not always.

Oh, remembered another reason why I love Game Crazy. When I bought my original Xbox in January of 07 I got it 1) cheaper than GameStop and 2) with 12 free game rentals.

Agree with everything you said Tean'.

Plus, when I was getting my Wii, they had a waiting list which I had my name on. I was pretty far down on the list, but since I went there every other day, when they got a shipment in they just "bumped me up." :P

Dont let it get to you Tean. :P

What I hate about GameStop is that if you bought a game there, and it doesnt work on your PC, you can sell it back to them, even though they buy used games.

Hmm.. I couldn't understand much of what the guy was saying on the videos, but it sounds like this gaming store sucks. I just go to EB Games...its pretty much the only gaming store I know of (Besides Target etc) and its fine with me.
