You're right though, certain shapes do form naturally, such as the thread-node type composition of the brain and the universe (and tree-root systems now that I think of it). It doesn't make things necessarily related, but it's certainly fun to entertain the idea of the universe being a giant brain...
Astrophysics find crazy stuff like this all the time. Another example:
The Hexagon is an example of a shape that forms rarely in nature, so scientists were predictably freaked out when they saw this:
