Hi all,
i recently downloaded the Mod tools and wanted to run it, when a message appeared with:
The storage folder c:/users/username/Softimage/XSI 6.0 cannot be found
I searched already in the XSI wicki for a possible solution , but no option fits.
I#m operating on Vista if XSi is not compitable with it ,then its my bad , otherwise , speak soon.

A lot of times when you type the actual error message into Google and search it'll take you straight to the solution.

Nice try, but i already mentioned that these optins doesn't work for me...
My computer has a C drive and i have a regular name without blanks or gaps or something or else it doesnt work with special signs in the username either

Nice try?

The solution still applies to you regardless of whether you have a C drive or not, the bottom line is the path is broken and it must be fixed. You might want to check to see if a
C:\users folder was actually created.

Are you saying you have special characters in your username? If so then remove them and rule this out as the path breaking problem.

Nah ican't find any folders and the error message says a folder couldn't be found in /c/users/F/Softimage/Mod Tools 6.01
but actually my username is F&I
so that's what we've been searching for isn't it?

It's very possible XSI doesn't like the & character in your username, which is why it shortens it to just /F/.

That's exactly what i did, I installed it one more time but nothin changed. My username is just "F".
It still says that the folder can't be found but when i look in the directory where it is supposed to be there's nothin not even a folder or simply a data.
What else could i do there was this option with the path changin thingy but in the XSi wiki it's
described very badly so i don't know exactly what to do now, cuz i'm a Noob at XSi and 3D modeling ...

try installing it somewhere else, you should be able to install it in any location you want... also you should be able to choose where you want the user files to be saved.. just pick a different folder to install it in and you shouldnt have any other errors, unless its a compatibility issue

Here is a really whacky option, why not download and install modtools 7.5, as I am assuming that you are working with either Vista or Win7 as an operating system and 7.5 is a bit more compatible with those. Just a thought.

The
users folder is created on first launch of the application, if your username no longer has any special characters in it and there is still no
users folder in the root of your C drive then the problem might be security related. You need to install it as administrator and run it with the same privileges.
I don't know a whole lot about Vista or Windows 7 but from what i've seen posted around the internet the OS might be keeping this XSI software from writing files to the root of the C drive, I guess you'd need to adjust the permissions to allow it to create the files it needs.
I also think you should give Mod Tool 7.5 a try since it has better support for Vista as FragMe mentioned above.

i try to install 7.5 in a different directory ,too, though it's more compatible with Visat and yes this time I#ll run it as Administrator(stupid Visat ,thousand of ships fully loaded with tons of Visat software chase arround and don't know where to put it

)

Just let the modtools install to the default directory, you can change the drive letter if needs be but keep the path as default.
You will find it will make a modtools directory as well as a separate User directory in the root of the drive. You can always do a search for user afterwards to find out where it put it if you can't find it.

Well, 7.5 can't find such a folder either and I can't find it either, so what's the problem? my current username is "F" .Does it need to be longer than a certain number of characters or is it just another problem I din't detect yet??
EDIT
Ohwell guys,
If theres no way to detect the problem could someone upload the Softimage folder means your Softimage folder to any server and let it downlaod me ,please??

you cant just copy over the folder and have a working xsi, it uses various services and drivers for rendering and so on, there is no way around installing

This is a picture of the directory structure that created upon 7.5 install albeit that it is on XP
but Win 7 should be similar.
Now the question is, is XSI installing and just not opening what it considers to be a default project or scene? If XSI is running try making a new project, if you can't find the user directory you can use the data directory in the SoftImage_Mod_Tools_7.5 location shown on picture.
Edit: Sure and after I made a nice picture and everything
