Blu-Ray loses the format battle.
um, sorry to not be very tech-savvy, but what are the alternatives to Blu-Ray?

Great another expensive paperweight

HD DVD
And @Karnage -
Here is something you can stick before the PS3. I'll make a new topic for it, so all you Apple fans can go crazy.

PS3 is best of the next gen-consoles in a long run.

Kind of odd that they would announce that when the PS3 isn't going to get FFXIII, the one game I know of now that could save it (all the others are also on 360, or PC, or both) until the end of next year in Japan, and the localization alone for the English version is expected to take over a year... so.... they're pretty much dead in the water, what with Halo 3 and Super Smash Bros. Brawl both coming out by the end of the year.
That's my two cents.

Umm....sorry. I'd have to stick even that below the
PS3. I'm no
Apple fan at all. Except the iPod and iTunes.

Thank You, finally someone appreciates it... Face it Microsoft sucks, the main reason people buy the xbox is for halo, but if there was no halo which console would be better for next generation games?

The Wii is very creative, but seriously, is it that much fun outside of parties of people and playing it yourself? I would think the thrill of the console would diminish over time.....

Computers are better than cosoles period, they are just a slew more price-wise...

How can you not like the only company that makes quality computers and software?

Apple ftw

Without Halo, Xbox 360 is just the PS3, just $300 less with the ability to play all of the last-gen games for that system.
Wii
is fun by yourself, it has 1-player games you know, so don't even start

Plus, the Virtual Console gives you some of the best games from the past, back when gameplay was cared more about than graphics.
And yes, computers may be great, but while a normal computer costs about $100-$500, how much does it cost to upgrade every time a jump in technology occurs? $200, $300?
Sony doomed themselves in the gaming department, and unless they do something about it by December, there will never be a PS4.

-How so?

I think Bluray is going to win, but if Sony gets a MAJOR hit game on the system, it will sale a slew more.... according to what you are saying.... And should they make it hackable like the Wii, or is that virtual console thing something it allows you download?

Actually, PC can be CHEAPER than console if you stick to the low end. Hit games still have a large multiplayer base.
There are also games that aren't graphics centric, have good gameplay, supreme mod-ability, loaded expansion packs including modder for hire additional scenarios, for a scant 30 dollars.
Tommorow, I hope to go
Beyond the Sword.
The official website is pretty cool too
I wish pandemic was more like Firaxis (which would require LA to be more 2Kgames...) and they used the modding community as a huge extension of their software development.
The difference between FPS and TBS may also affect ease of creating mod community, but still.

I just got really annoyed with computer games.... I bought about 4-5 games that "technically" should run on my computer fine, but they don't and I couldn't return them, so I cannot play them... At least with the consoles you KNOW what your getting....

I'm sorry, but I've played a decent amount of games on all three. PS3 is the worst of them all. Not entirely due to the games, but a number of factors, which I'll list for you:
-Lack of 'epic' PS3 exclusive games. Yeah, we've got a World War II meets War Of The World shooter. Weeee. A shooter is a shooter when it comes down to it. What matters is the story, and having an established franchise, and the story isn't impressive in Resistance. Nintendo has the Mario universe, Microsoft Halo. What's Sony got? Ratchet and Clank?
-As other have stated, taking a gamble on Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are fighting the same battle that Betamax and VHS fought long ago. It's going to be at least a few years before a clear winner emerges. Until then, the technology is too new.
-Continuing on the Blu-Ray topic, there are few games that currently come close to the 7.4 gb limit of dual-layer DVDs. It's doubtful that even in a few years that any will.
-The biggest letdown: The price. Nobody wants to shell out 500 bones for a system. If you do then you just have obscene amounts of money to blow on things. Realistic people wouldn't.
Now do I think the PS3 sucks? Not really, it's just the least-worth-it of the three. In fact, I'll never buy one. But if a buddy has a PS3 game night I'm not gonna say that I'd tell him I'm not gonna show up.

The only thing good about the PS3 are its third-paty exclusives such as MGS4 and FFXIII which come out in 2008 or possibly later. By that time the PS3 will probably be dead or sooner. In the time between now and then there probably won't be many major releases for the PS3.

Shouldnt they focus on the PS3 first and get it to make them some profit before making a $1000 BBQ Grill with MicroWave and Stove?

Wii is not hackable. It's internet capabilities allow you to download Virtual Console games onto the Wii from the Wii Shop Channel.

This is what I think. I have never played a game on any of the Playstation consoles that I have liked. Almost every game on any of the Nintendo systems are pretty decent and I'd play any of them again. Every game I have played on the Xbox consoles I would definitely play more than once and enjoy it.
PS3 - $500
Wii - $250 + Xbox 360 - $300-$600 (if you want to go all out) = $550-$850
I'd say $50 more is a whole lot better when you can get two great quality consoles compared to one huge ripoff.

We already know you don't like the PS3....

but seriously is a 120 GB hard drive
really worth $100? for the 360

That's about what a normal 120GB hdd costs at best buy.

The question for these new gen games, especially the PS3, is how much memory do these games typically have? If it was 10GB, then either the games are too advanced for this time or the developers really are lazy to cramp the size down to small.
Sony is making the same big mistake SNK (now SNKPlaymore) made when they thought their arcade games like Metal Slug would own game business.
