RPG ideas for BF2

A thread I just read sparked this idea; the Cops V Criminals RPG rules thread. Has anyone ever played an RPG online? They're great fun but after a while the same old RPGs (Space, City etc.) get a little bit boring, so I think that it'd be a good idea if you've played a fun, different or interesting RPG than you can post it here with the Rules, the Roles and the Map(s) and I can add it to the list. Also, feel free to add possible roles and possible maps to already listed RPGs.

List of RPGs:

City

Rules: Act as though you're in a small town/city. TKing allowed.

Roles: Cantina owner, Cantina worker, Mayor, Shop Owner, Shop Worker, Shop Inspector, Policeman, Gangster, Doctor, Repairman.

Maps(s): Mos Eisley

Space

Rules: Act as though you and your crew are on a Capital Ship. Create different storylines e.g scouting enemy ship.

Roles: Admiral, Captain, Lieutenant, Petty Officer, Chief Engieer, Engine Matinence Officer. but not usually addressed by rank. Admiral is the boss.

Map(s): All Space Maps

Notes: Life support is usually Engineering room, for some reason everyone puts on Jetpacks and Walkthrough hangers.

Outpost

Rules: Act as though your on a Republic/Imperial outpost.

Roles: General, Brigadier Colonel, Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel, Major, Captain, Lieutenant, Sergeant, Corporal, Private, Field Medic (Used together with a rank, e.g Pvt. Bob, Field Medic)

Maps: Kamino

You can update them all at once, or gradually. Whatever you want, but the best for first please.

but not usually addressed by rank.
As a quick question, might I ask as to why the Admiral or Captain wouldn't be addressed by rank usually? Most of the RPGs that I've participated in did have the characters refer to them as such. Unless, of course, I'm misreading this.

At any rate, during my time as a BFII roleplayer, I've found that storyline-driven RPGs that vary their character focus are the most enjoyable. They're quite flexible, allowing one to fit in many genres without damaging the plot. Plus, it's an excellent place to practice one's writing skills. RPGs of this sort also have the bonus of allowing players to make full use of character development. Villains can be fleshed out in scenes devoted to them, while the heroes and their goals can remain intact and, dare I say, grow.

I suppose the best way to explain this type would be to liken it to a movie, perhaps - a fully-interactive movie whose overall story is influenced and altered by the characters and the choices they make.

Of course, that's not to say City RPGs and the like are dull and uninteresting. When done well, they can be extremely enjoyable. I just find that, after a while, they can become a bit...blasé, I suppose the word may be.

As I can't think of any sort of effective closting statement, I suppose I'll just say that this is all my own opinion, and that people are free to roleplay in any way they truly wish to. After all, the name of the game, when all is said and done, is to have an enjoyable time.

I was probably a bit misleading there. What I meant was that subordinates usually refer to them as 'Sir', not Captain or Admiral. Well, in most Space RPGs I've been in, at least.

I couldn't agree more with you; The purpose of a RPG is to have fun. But, as you say, some of the same old RPGs can get a bit blase (I'm not going to copy a single letter from Word), so I made this thread to add diversity to RPGing. I thought that if someone knows a little known but fun RPG, they could post it here and everyone could benefit.

Having roleplayed with Hero_Unit for no short length of time, I might add that if you enjoy doing story-based RPGs, you may wish to consider gathering a group of friends and trying a long-term, multiple-session RPG. Though you need to have enough of both time and attention span, I've found a great deal of enjoyment to be had in several-week (even several-month) RPGs.

When you have four or five good friends, each of whom has his/her own characters and plans for said characters, you'll find as Hero said that it often does resemble a movie. And it is indeed excellent writing practice; I'd say roleplaying to blow off steam after long days has taught me more about eliciting a response from text than all the Literature classes I've taken put together.

Ok, thanks for that. Can you pick out some of the best RPGs and post Rules and Roles (Secret Service RPG sounds interesting to me), because there's nothing but names of RPGs.

I don't recall seeing you on BF2 at all. I know Vat, Hero Unit, Bly, and Metroid Nut, but eh...sorry, I don't quite know you.

You didn't make it to the top 5. =P
