Server Editions of you map(mostly for Majin Revan)

Some maps are much to huge to be put on online servers, and deleting the sound and movies folder doesn't cut it. I was wondering, that if someone backed up their map, then deleted all non-common textures, and audio files, models etc, then munged, if it would a:
Create a much smaller map file
B:Run with the dedicated server software and still be compatible with the normal map.
I post this with majin in mind. I have somewhat severe doubts that someone will upload 186 mb of files to a server to host a map.
