Hey all, just a quick question regarding an issue a friend of mine has been having regarding BF2.
He installed the Steam version of the game, and I got him to download the 1.3 patch, a number of maps, and Dark Times 2. Dark Times works completely fine, as do the custom maps we got a chance to try, so with that I'm assuming the patch was installed correctly.
The problem arose when he tried to install BFX. At first all I did (thinking it would work) was copy and paste the BFX folder from MY addon folder, which contains 4 different files (the uninstall, the addme.script, the uninstall.script, and the "data" folder) to his. The eras showed up in his game, and the maps even began to load, but as soon as the loading "bar" reached the final circle and the map was about to load it would crash, no matter what map we tried with BFX.
One thing I noticed is that when he "installed" the mod it came with 2 folders, ADDON and DATA (or maybe it was GAMEDATA, can't remember). Inside the ADDON folder was where the BFX folder that I copied was. I'm assuming it has something to do with the files that were inside the DATA folder, but I have no idea where that's supposed to go (if that's even where the problem lies).
Anyway, I tried a few things (re-installing the mod) but it didn't seem to fix the problem. If anyone knows what the issue is and how I can fix it for my buddy that'd be great.
Thanks.

Re: BFX Installation Problem (Crashing)
BFX has files installed with the stock sides. They are located in "data/side/BFX". I believe that if you just send your buddy the BFX side folder (and if he puts it in his "data/side" folder) and plug in the BFX addon folder, everything should work out.
EDIT:
So, to summarize, you need to put both BFX folders where they belong. One has the scripts which load the sides, the other folder contains the sides. The side folder needs to be in a specific location, otherwise BFX won't work.
