What do you think the spirit of the request from the author is? Is he asking you to literally not modify his text file or is he asking that his vehicle's stats remain unchanged when it is used? The whole goal behind these rules is to respect the authors and their decisions.
Good advice - never be having to ask yourself "how close to the line can I get?", but rather "how far away from the line can I be?"

That's just good advice for live in general, too.

Agreed, so if it gets to where I need the particular vehicle I will PM the author. Its not nessesary yet, as that mod idea is in test map stage, and need not use that faction.

Teancum wrote:Sure - figuring out the inner workings of something is fine. In fact that sort of stuff is encouraged so you're a better and smarter modder. It's probably best to update your own odfs than borrow his though (I'm saying that just in case someone's thinking about doing that). That way you learn more about how odfs work, and it's 100% tweaked the way YOU want it.
so it is ok or what the sure confused me sure i need hs permission or sure its fine?

Sure its fine, is what i think he's saying. in fact, i thikn he's encouraging you to do it because it'll help you learn for yourself. I don't think you need permission to look at the odf and add bits and pieces of it yourself....

Since this is a mod, not a map, would this mean I would not be able to use them? I have no problem removing them(Well, except for the lasers cause they are fantastic, especially on dark lighting maps, but rules are rules...), as I have replacements at hand. So what is my situation?
Sorry for pestering, but I need an answer since this part is the only thing that is preventing me from uploading my mod, so sorry for pestering...

Let's go with a 'no' on this one since he asked them to not be used in mods. You can probably find most everything else you need by someone else.

I'm assuming ARC_Commander's reasoning behind maps = OK mods = not OK was that he didn't want another mod ripping off chunks of BFX.
Anyway sorry for off-topicness again, and thanks for putting clear copyright rules up.

Just remake the effects/textures. I can send you the invisible mesh I use for force power effects (he may use "mine" anyway) if you need it. Dark Space is a mod - it's a large map pack with its own era. It is not just "a map."
off topic mav can u please send it to me also thx
Double posting is against the RULES, please EDIT your post instead -Staff

I believe that most of the JKA playermodels have already been rigged and released.

Since this is evidently the topic we've been using for talking about BFX assets, I shot ARC_Commander an email about our dilemma.

Teancum, you mention sound effects but what about music? There's a lot of decent action cues that can't be heard in BF1 and BF2 that are present in otehr games, the albums etc.
