The most annoying thing in the world.

Okay. Maybe I exaggerated a little.
Anyway, it all starts out, I'm playing BF2 fine...but WHENEVER I load the next map, most of the textures are either missing or solid black.
This is uber annoying. And sometimes it doesn't even take going to the next map, it'll just randomly appear. But it's almost guaranteed that going to the next map = black everything.
What do I do to avoid punching my PC to death?

smash your screen with the keyboard!
that is usually far easier to do because the pc is normally under the table while the screen is on it. and of course it has a better effect because the screen will fall off the table and the pc probably wouldnt have because ist heavier.

Looks (sounds) like a graphics driver problem. This is like the fourth thread you've made about your PC troubles. What type of computer do you have? A win95? Kidding, I know you have a vista.
Try updating your gfx drivers. Or run bf2 as administrator. And restart the game after each level you play.

that will always be a problem, get XP or 7, but suffering through vista is something no human should have to do.

Long live XP

There's your problem.
I have the same issue with my Mobility Radeon HD 5730. Though, it doesn't do it after EVERY map, but if I play for an extended period of time, some of the textures just seem to... vanish... and turn black.
Unfortunately, I haven't found a fix except restarting BFII. I DID notice that it happens more often when the sun is shining on my computer, so I think it might be a heat-related issue if there's anything you can do about it (move the computer tower to a more open space, get a new fan, etc). Also, you can make the issue less frequent by turning your settings down (Light bloom: off had the best effect for me, but it may just be quality settings in general).

Sometimes changing the lighting settings fixes it.
So what IS a good alternative to my graphics card? One that works just as well (or at least almost as well)?

Is your PC a desktop/Laptop?
About the graphics card: Try Nvidia. Mine is a GeForce GTX 260M, and it hasn't given me that many problems.

And that card can run all of the modern stuff as well?

It should...but I'm not that sure. It's two years old right now, and I haven't gotten many recently released games.
Anyway, Is your PC a desktop or a laptop?

Full-blown desktop. It's a Gateway FX, supposed to be like the best of its kind and stuff.
